Thread: Overweight kidds

Article in the paper today, 155 million kidds world wide are severly overweight.
When I was a kid (ok Im 42) the fat kids like me were the minority, today you have to look for the thin kids.
I dont know about anyone else but since I started BBuilding and watching my diet these last years I certainly pass it on to my kids.
I know countless parents who are huge and there kids reflect it. I hate to talk down to them because I myself used to be heavy, but for the love of the kids someone needs to get them a miror and a wakeup kick in the ass.
Sorry had to rant.....

there was an article in USA Today a few days ago about an implant you can get (retainer almost) in the roof of your mouth. supposed to control how fast you eat. how stupid is that. there were only a certain number of dentists qualified to "install" these retainers too.

Three things have happened:
1) Almost every foodstuff kids eat today have huge amounts of calories and fat.
2) Playing outside has been replaced by PS2 and the Internet
3) Parents are right there with them stuffing twinkies down the hatch watching Ameican Idol. This behavior gets passed on to the kids... the cycle continues.

From everything I see, it can be remedied simply by not having the **** in the house to begin with. The blame falls largely on the parents, in my opinion, who use sweets and junk food as negotiating tools. If and when I have children, there sure aren't going to be any cookies and whatnot in the house for constant access.

statistically (you can look it up if you dont buy my BS...lol) in the late 70s and early 80s only 3% of americans were obese. now 33 percent are and its climbing about 1.5%each year concurrently for the last 5years.

In 1985 the internation obesity task force announced obesity as an epidemic. Approx. 1/3 (33.4%) of adults are to be obese. More pople arespending more time at work in a office job. More sitting and less activity. evidence of this is concluded in things like (LPB) low back pain, knee injuries, chronic diseases like increased triglycerides and cholesterol levels, obesity, high blood pressue, glucose tolerance, heart disease, and strokes.
parents pass this directly along to their children. Their is less involvement in outdoor activities and more time spent playing video games, watching TV, and sitting on a computer. parents do less home cooking and outsource their food from other establishments.

I was a fat kid when I was little. That's why I'm such a narcissistic, self-loathing bastard now.
