For Medical Marijuana? You'll like Texas Democrats . . .

Personally, I don't like the stuff. But there's no reason why government (actually, mostly Republican politicians) should tell doctors they can't prescribe it to people who can benefit from it.
Ya, there's no need for politicians to be restricting access to legitimate medicines.
    Hooray for the Democrats . . .

    =====================

    . . . . . . . . . . . From Texans for Medical Marijuana

We are happy to announce that after a passionate debate, the Texas State Democratic Party adopted a resolution, which includes supporting legislation to remove criminal penalties for bona fide patients and providers of therapeutic marijuana. The Party Platform reflected this same sentiment by adopting a plank under the section - A Patient’s Bill of Rights, which states:

Medical decisions regarding all effective treatment options must be made by medical doctors in consultation with their patients, not insurance company accountants, or government bureaucrats.

This resolution would never have gotten to the state convention without the help of all the volunteers who saw it through the precinct and senatorial district/county conventions. We are very thankful for their participation.

If you are interested in learning how you can become more involved in this campaign and you live in the Austin/San Antonio or Dallas area, this is your lucky week! Steph Sherer of Americans for Safe Access will be leading training sessions and taking questions about medical marijuana policy in California and across the country.

Steph will be in Austin the evenings of June 23rd & 24th and the sessions will be held at the Texas ACLU office at 1210 Rosewood Avenue, just east of Interstate 35 off of 11th Street. Pizza and soda will be provided. Please contact Noelle Davis at (512) 659-1108 with any questions. The schedule is as follows:

    Wednesday June 23rd 6:30 – 9:30 pm
Building a United Front: How to Effectively Deliver the Medical Marijuana Message

    Thursday June 24th 6:30 – 9:30 pm
Outreach Training: How to Volunteer and Have Fun
and How to Develop and Implement Local Strategies

Steph will then head to the Dallas area and do an abbreviated version of the same trainings Saturday, June 26th from 2-4 pm at the Oakhaven United Methodist Church, 1600 North Irving Heights Dr. in Irving. Pizza and soda will also be provided at this meeting. Please contact Craig Johnson at (972)-245-8334 with any questions.

    Sincerely,

    Noelle, Karen & Craig

wow, simply awesome but all the stuff that people smoke is not bona fide medicinal grade, thus it doesn't really help anybody except the medical people who "need" it...but there are better alternatives out there for glaucoma and anything else that marajuana "helps"

man, those democrats are awesome....seems to me, since democrats are usually shown to support the minority, it is just one more way to buy the minority vote..imagine that

Nevertheless, it's progress toward a more rational approach to marijuana use, and progress toward taking politics out of the practice of medicine.

Again, on this issue, I say, "Hooray for the Democrats!"
