I cannot believe that this guy sold himself out. What a dirty coward! I think it is a disgrace to the military!

Monday, a group claiming to have kidnapped Wassef Hassoun said it had taken him to safety after he promised not to return to the American military, Al-Jazeera reported.

The group -- which calls itself "Islamic Response," the security wing of the Islamic Resistance of Iraq -- faxed a statement to the network, saying Hassoun "has been sent to a safe place after he had announced his forgiveness and his determination not to go back to the U.S. forces."

I agree......... No one wants to die...... and it's not like he didn't hear how the other men were executed...... You just don't know what you would do in that situation.

What? Telling your torturers that you won't go back to the army is not treason. It's self-preservation, something that is highly regarded in the military.

we wont know what the deal is until its over - lets see if he can eventually make it back - he may be "free" in Syria but still with their buddies who are watching him - it will take awhile to sort out the truth on this one

Now on a serious note. I would probably say anything to gain my freedom. That is as long as at did not put any of my brothers in danger. If they did let me go I would find a way to get back to the Marines as quick as possible.

I would have told them anything they wanted to hear in order to save my life. However, he was only given that chance because he was of middle easterner. An American would have been killed already, and nothing he would have said would have gotten him out of it.

How could you not say what he said... in his situation... The thought of being beheaded is a gruesome and terrible thought... and knowing it's been done makes it even more terrifying... Who wants to be beheaded and have it seen all over the world for the sake of the military? Sometimes "you have to put you first"... This is definitely one of those situations where it applies. I still hate that, that stuff happens in the world I live... It makes me absolutely furious

..and I'm still on the IRR short leash, so I could be packing up any day with the recent Army call-ups.

If I was to say "I am a Marine," people would take that as I still wear the uniform, which I couldnt even fit into anymore.
