Can someone help me with a computer annoyance?

My IE browser is saturated with crap. There are 2 separate search bars which have somehow been installed -undoubtedly due to my dumbass- and I cannot for the life of me figure out how to get rid of the bastards. Also, I set my homepage to the 'blank' but everytime my browser restarts it loads up a page with a url that is soooo **** long and it goes nowhere. So when i start my browser it takes about 30seconds (i have ****ty dialup) to even get to a point where I can start loading the page I really want. I'm guessing -though im no comp guru- that there is something in the registry that is doing this, but i could be wrong. Adaware doesnt fix the problem, there are no programs in the add/remove programs that match this crap. any ideas? thanks in advance

view--> Toolbars--> uncheck "my search bar"

that should take away the annoying toolbar for now

go to the security and computer discussion forum of AR and look for any of the threads discussing spyware ...download the program and run it...then restart your comp...that should work

Stop downloading from porn sites, that'll solve the problem. Try "spybot" too, been told it's a goodie.

Download Spybot's Search and Destroy. Sounds like what's dicking you around is toolbars which were downloaded from a third party. Make sure you read the popups from now on, many of those spyware sites install their tools via annoying popups that people don't read and just click 'yes' to make it go away.

had the same prob a few weeks ago and search&destroy didn't pick it up. look for a name on those toolbars and then do a registry search...more than likely you'll find a match in tons of places. delete those keys, restart IE and they should be gone if you removed all of them successfully. you can also do a google search on the names in those toolbars...more than likely a lot of other peeps had/have the same prob as you...

sounds like a spyware problem....i downloaded this program and it really works great....i had a blank internet explorer page that would always pop up and it took care of it....
    Download sites:
    ad-ware: http://www.lavasoft.de/support/download/
    Spybot: http://www.safer-networking.org/en/index.html
At a bookstore the other day, I saw a book entitled "Sex for Dummies." Why would someone want to teach dumb people how to reproduce? Aren't there enough of them now?

Adaware doesnt work, I just finished running it and just for kicks I am running alluria right afterwards. So far alluria has picked up 135 things that ad-aware completely missed. Ill also try and find the keys in the registry.

    Ill give spybot a try.

Thanks everybody for your very much appreciated input

I always use spysweeper with updated definitions. I have never had a problem with it picking things up. It even detected a keylogger i put on my computer under invisible mode.

Spyware is definitly your problem. Good way to check is just hit CTL+ALT+Delete and when the task manager appears check for unusual programs that are opened. It's never a bad idea to run the spyware program in safe mode. If some of the spyware is open and running it cannot delete something that is open.

Addware will work if you go to advanced settings and allow it to scan your registry.
