    VIVE LE QUÉBEC LIBRE!!!!!!!!!

And its more than 22.8% of the population is french, they alway forget to count the 2 millions in Ont and the 1.5-2 million in the west and ...

And if 2 millions quebecers would have stayed in 19th century(they moved to the US)
we would be 50milions and 35 millions would be french HAHAHA, count your luck now! Imagine Celine Dion as governor general! eeeeeeeeeha!

Why should we have a choice, because we were forced to join the Dominion of Canada.

    vive referendum!

But we will seperate! You guys will wait 2 years then you will join quebec, and wait 2-3 years and do a referendum to turn the name back to canada, so we will do another ref to quit and you will join us again , you see where im going with this! Big bull**** on both sides

I wish more people in BC and Alberta wanted to separate from Canada. IMO PQ has the right idea, you guys are socialists and we are capitalists, we should part ways. I believe BC and Alberta would be a better place without having to bow to the ways of the east. We don't care about French, Newfoundland, Nova Scotia, fisherman, poutine, or Paul Martin. A country built on favourtism benefits no one in the long run. The favoured get lazy and complacent, the unfavoured are forced to pay for other people's free ride.

VIVE LE QUÉBEC LIBRE!! I'll drink to that, so long as BC and Alberta get to split too and leave Ontario holding the bag. Now that would make me laugh.

I just say let em go. Hell, I took French all through the years of school and the funny thing is... it's France French, not Quebec Fench.
Im not too sure how they'll base their economic growth just as Quebec, not many resources there to depend on for exports, over a longer spand of time.
As for the History; the Voyaguers, the Hudson's Bay Company and all that fur trading got alittle old after the 5th year of learning it.

The problem with the west is that it was created by a federal entities, not an union and federation like the founding province. Without Ottawa there would be no BC or Alberta.

and the funniest thing is that QUEBEC WANTS THE same ****ing thing as the west.

I remember many years ago they did that thing, they kept Preston Manning with some hardcore western redneck with some hardcore separatist for 72h in a room.
At first they were ennemies and ended up as friend sharing the same ideas and visions.

That country is crap thanx to the liberals !

We have selfish westerners, centered ontarians, nutcase quebecers, eastern fishermen and drunken irish in NF.

Actually it's a lot worse than that...

TV, Satelite and Cable programming (ie: what channels they are allowed to distribute in Canada), is all regulated by CANCON (Canadian Content) rules set forth by the CRTC and dictated by the "Heritage Minister" and all her cronies (Rogers, Videotron, Star-Choice, Bell...) who won't allow fair TV competition with the US distributors.

The french issue doesn't even enter into it, the average french Canadian doesn't even know Direct TV exists nor does he care since there is no french programming on it.

As for bilingual packaging, get use to it... many products are now even tri-lingual. I bought groceries and shampoo in the US last summer that were labeled in English, Spanish and French. It's a simple matter of economics... it's alot cheaper to make 1 label for north america than 1 for mexico, 1 for US and english Canada, and 1 for french Canada.

Well, if we looked at it on a global scale, the 2 most spoken languages are the dialects of Chinese and the dialects of Hindi

Based on their numbers of speakers alone they would be the 2 official "Earth Languages"

Ok so when do we start to speak chinese?

In my belief, it should be the company's place to decide what labelling they put on their packaging. The possible exception could be for safety issues but we already have universal symbols for that and so only reason we have French on the labels of products is because the Canadian Federal GVT follows it's usual trend of catering to the the minority at the expense of the majority.

There is no valid reason for the GVT to force private company to label it's products in any given laguage(s) so long as the appropriate saftey symbols are used. Let the market decide..........oh right, I forgot, this is Canada and unfortunately we don't do that here.

If it were a matter of economies of scale, which is what you are saying, then there would be no need to legislate it. The language thing is just a form of protectionism (within a domestic market ....double blechh!! ).

Red, you have neglected weight in your assumption. The may be a zillion Hindi and Mandarin speakers but if you add up, in a global context, GDP per person and then distiribute it across languages, English is by far the language of commerce. The average English speaker's real GDP is much greater than the average Chinise or East Indians real GDP.

Bottom line: at this time English speakers hold the best game in town (ie financial opportunity) and you want to play then you are best suited to speak the language.

Ah but of course, I was only refering to numbers of people speaking X language. I was not attaching any value to them or comparing their "worth" with a rich north American or European.

It's obvious that for now English is indeed the language of commerce.

Yup, welcome to Canada... the simple fact this country has 2 official languages makes everything more complicated. But it could be a lot worse, look at the packaging from some european countries that have 3-4 official languages, it's pretty scary.

And then even if the fed government didnt legislate bilingual packaging, the provincial gov here in quebec forces it... it's illegal to sell stuff here that doesn't contain french packaging and instructions along with whatever other language.

Fair enough. I wasn't sure if you were up to speed as some people have this notion that China is currently an economic powerhouse.

Do you teach history at the primaire or secondaire level? It's been a loooong time since I read that stuff, but I am sure it was a lot more detailed as the diluted watered down and "politically corrected" history I've seen in my kids homework.
