I can get 50% off a set off Golf Clubs...what should I get?

My friend's parents are best friends with a guy who owns a country club/pro shop. He can get me whatever I want at cost...which comes to about 50% off. I am thinking about a set of Callaway irons with a Big Bertha driver and callaway sand wedge. I just started to play Golf, but this is an opportunity I cannot pass up. I need some golfing experts to advise me here. What do you think?

Rush I highly recommend a set of Tommy Armours...

I've owned 2 different sets and they to me are the

best irons I've ever hit hands down and usually they

are alot cheaper then say Callaway or Taylor Made

or almost any other big name golf company irons...

Driver I'd go Taylor Made 500 series or the 420 burner

or the newest Callaway Big Bertha Driver is pretty good...

best irons i hit are the titelist 680 forged blades but those are expensive. callaways are really forgiving clubs so i suggest them when ure jsut starting out

definitely agreeing with fitnessNY...........i just bought a set of ping blade i3's and its rediculous how awesome they are. They have increased my distance immensly. I went from a 150 yrd 7 iron, to now hitting it around 175-180 and my 8 iron to around the 160 mark.......incredible. You willing to hook anyone else up with a set??

the best irons ive hit were titlest's...not sure what series...but i also owned some pings that werent bad at all...i remember i hated the 3 iron, but the 5,7, and 9 is about all i tend to use...lol iron wise that is

now there is a quality set of clubs, although they just came out with fairway woods called deep red, they look pretty sweet but i dont know of anyone who has used them

Rush, if you are a beginner I would have a talk to the pro who you will be buying the clubs from and let him advise you. Blades are definitly out as they are way to hard to hit for a beginner. You definitly need something with Cavity Backs of some kind. Also talk to hime about shafts as well, you can have steel or grafite. Steel is more accurate but you cant hit them as far as graphite. Callaway VFT's are great. If you can get japanese steel shafts tha is the best of bothe world, with the accuarcy of steel and the flexibility of graphite. The pro should also fit the clubs for you. Everyone hits the ball differently and are of different heights, so ask him abou that as well. Good luck !!

Titlest or Cleveland.... better made irons and better feel that any other iron I have ever used... Do they have used clubs? Id borrow them for a bit and see what you like.

Ping makes good clubs. If you are getting them at cost don't buy a cheap set. Get some good sh*t.

Thanks for the advise bros...everyone I talk to tell me to get Callaway everything...Big Bertha is my top choice...do I really neeed to get them "custom fit"...what does that entail? Since I am getting such a good deal I want the best...anymore ideas?

how do they custom fit these clubs? do i need to physically be there to get them fit? from what i hear its the old men who use the graphite, so i will go with the regular iron clubs...

Bro make sure you go with steel shaft for the irons...
Just trust me on that part... I'd also see if you can
get a demo set of the X-16's before buying them...
My boy has them and I tried them a few weeks ago
and hated them, the iron heads are to heavy IMO...
I just hated the feel of the clubs...

Ping irons, Great Big Bertha driver and fairway woods, Mizuno wedges, Ping putter.

Ultimately, you should always hit clubs before you buy them. This way you will know if they are right for you and you can have them fitted to your swing speed, height, bal trajectory and hand size.

it really depends on how much you are willing to spend......If you want to get of a little cheeper and still get some nice clubs look into nike or mizuno....if money in no object go with the callaway vft's and the erc driver.

You can get used to most irons with practice but pay attention to the driver shaft and loft. For a beginner I would look at reg. flex shaft and 10* loft or more.
