    credit card theft

I got a call today from Discover card.....some @$$hole got ahold of my numbers and tried to charge up a several grand on my card. I never lost my card....so they must have gotten it online or something. Luckily I have account guard and they alerted me ASAP...I hate thieves.......

basically this is what sometimes happens, i know it does alot in London. Someone will drop their card near an ATM, by accident, or someone will push into them or something.

One of the thieves picks it up to return it to her/him and whilst he picks it up he has some form of pad he sticks on the front of the card real quick, tracing the nuimbers layout etc, then they hand it back to the person.

The person assumes everthing is ok as she/he has their card back safely, these people then go back and make up a quick copy (not hard, ive seen my fair share of good copys, working in retail) then go spend some money on it!

If you can get you hands on a receipt you can sometimes find enough details on it to commit fraud. I picked that up while working in retail. I always rip up all my receipts when i no longer need them. I never just chuck em in the bin.

Someone stole my Younkers card and charged a bunch on it. The company sent me a form with copies of the receipts and I had to sign the bottom with a notary public signature as well. They cleared the card of all the charges.

A girl I know was dating a guy who got her social security number and got a credit card in her name online and then used it to make online purchases. He had done it to at least one other girl and has a year left to pay them off or he goes to jail.
