I've Just Been Offered The Chance To Become A Pro-Boxer

    What's up guys,

I just got a phone call about 5 minutes ago from an Olympic boxing trainer who apparently got my number from the owner of the Boxing gym he trains at. The owner is a good friend of my brother's and has met me once in awhile. Apparently, my brother and the owner were shooting the **** one day and the owner mentioned that he was looking for someone new to enter the Pro ranks, but wanted someone of East-Indian decent. I am East-Indian and somehow my name got mentioned.

More or less, because I'm in good shape and East-Indian, they're pretty much looking to exploit me to attract more attention to the sport. They've offered to train me for free and pay me for every fight I participate in. The trainer mentioned that I wouldn't do anything in the Amateurs except for a few exhibitions that would just get me used to the ring, but jump straight to the Pro's.

Sounds like it's a rare opportunity that I may take up. What would you do if you were in my shoes?

    Have you evered boxed before?

If it's something you feel that you would like to do go for it....... If you find out you hate it you can quit..... well, unless they make you sign a contract.

    Good luck!

Nah, not at all. I'm into MMA though, I actually wanted to train for that. We've done a few rounds in the ring before, but I've never thought about taking it up.

I know if anything, I'll take it up for the opportunity and the exprience, but I won't stay with it long. I know they're just using me for the publicity.

And you're right, I'm too pretty. But I think I may take it up to see what it's all about.

I know one thing for sure, I'd have to drop my weight class. I'm around 190lbs right now, if I were to do it, I would drop down to 174lbs, not the heavier weights just yet.

Over here. In Canada and the United States. The trainer said he'd give me a call later on tonight and we'd do a few rounds in the ring as well as discuss the smaller details and what exactly they want from me.

But from what I told, it's of no expense to me and I would get paid.

Thanks OG, that helped a lot bro.

I'm pretty sure I'll do Light-Heavies or maybe even Cruiserweight. I guess it all depends on what the trainer thinks.

The biggest thing for me is switching my training and diet up now.

If anything, I'll probably stick to a High Carb, Moderate Protein and Moderate Fat diet now.

The one thing you gotta take into consideration is that if they are using you for exposure and you don't come through, you'll be the laughing stock of the sport. If they hype you up and you fall flat, you'll be the next Peter Mcneily.
I'm sure your in good shape and can fight with your mma backround, but boxing is a whole new ballgame bro, Its not something most (if any) people can just pick up and be good at, most people who are even ranked in the pro's have been boxing for 10+ years atleast, with a lenghty amatuer background to boot.
Ask any Pro trainer who knows what he's talking about and they will tell you that your amatuer career will help immensly when you turn pro. Its an important part of learning the sport, most people don't turn pro with under 30 amatuer fights.
IMO just the fact that this guy is even considering taking a kid with no boxing backgorund and putting him straight to the pros, shows that this guy doesn't know what he's doing.
Its also a very hard sport to gain exposure in, it will take years of winning to even be recognized as a prospect. Tyson fought for 2 years and 28 pro fights with no losses, most coming by early round KO, before he even got a title shot and he was a well known amatuer and jr. olympian.

If your only doing it for the money and don't mind the chance that you might be boxings next big joke then I say go for it.

This is not meant to be a flame at you bro, just trying to point out the downside to it aswell.

Also just so you know I know a few new Pro boxers and the pay isn't good. Its usually only a couple hunded bucks a fight at best.

    Good luck either way bro!

Thanks for the heads up Tha Gonz, but I'm fully aware of that and they're full aware that I'm not experienced with boxing. Like I said before, I'm being used for exposure. I don't give a rats ass if I fall down or not, atleast I did it and took up the opportunity when I had the chance.

I'm just a marketing ploy for a bigger picture, or so atleast I was told. That sits fine with me mans.

I would take the opportunity, but prepare for some hard training and a few ass whippings...believe me i am talking from expirience...i have done some boxing when i was younger, i thought it would be a walk in the park as i can dish out a beating and take one as well (as the pic in my avatar shows i ain't that pretty )...but it was a whole new ball game after 3 months of beatings as there are rules you must play by, i gave up and went back to the streets where it is much easier...LOL...but as i said i would jump all over that opportunity...a little beating never hurt anyone and it builds character just look at that face...

i would stay out of the ring bro, my dad, who is now 55, and has busted ass all his life to earn a good living for me and the rest of my family, started as a boxer in a middle eastern country, he regrets the day he joined, and so do i sometimes.his mentality is as hard as a boulder, hes pretty hard up. he did what he had to do(whooping peoples asses, and taking a beating himself), but its definitly not worth getting your head knocked around for 'publicity'. think twice before you put them gloves on.
