    Where do you work out?

I'm just curious as to what kind of gym everyone goes to. Give some descriptions if you feel it helps.

    I work out at a Gold's that is a hardcore-wannabe gym. It's actually a serious fitness gym.

I used to go to Golds till they sold out. Then I went to a local gym for a couple years but it was a meat market. I finally found this little Mom and Pop type of gym about an hour away. I loved it. Everyone was there to lift. It was great but the drive started to get to me. I switched to the local 24hr fitness. What a mistake!

Anyway after getting sick of that cardio/social gym. I decide to work out at home. So far I love it. All I have right now is a power rack, lat pull down cable, bench with preacher, and 500lbs Olympic. But this week Im getting a large sum of money from my business. So, Im gonna order a hack squat/leg press machine, calf machine, some heavy dumbbells, leg raise/dip and roman chair. Im debating on a smith machine. I have a rack but I have been working out alone lately (my partners a flake).

Powerhouse for 6 1/2 years, then made the mistake of joining Gold's for the past 8 months! May have to switch back to the hardcore...Much more serious training going on, not to mention the better music.. Golds is ok, but like Cane said, seems to be alot more wannabes & pickup place (in fla.) than serious like Powerhouse Gym.

    !!@!

We belong to a local Sports Stadium. Swimming pool, hockey rink, curling rink, a coffe shop. a restaurant/Lounge, aeorobics room, dnace room, day care, a physio therapy clinic, a suppliment shop with tanning beds, and of course the gym (about 40 - 50 pieces of cardio equipment, a circuit area, a warm up area and the free wieght section) I absolutely love it and have only 2 complaints. The locker rooms and showers are WAAAYYYYY too small and they play local radio stations for background music....and those stations absolutely SUCK!! But we're very happy overall.

True BW, and my year is up in July at Golds, and I have a Powerhouse not too far from me. I may just switch myself.

It just seems everyone at Powerhouse is on the same wavelength. They go all out....No bull....no continuous starring in the mirror at themselves, unless training for a show. Actually most members are covered up...except for us skimpy women.
Sweaty, Hardcore, Heavymetal, fun place to train.
    And super hot bodies.....hehe

I have to train in a family type gym, not by choice though, its the only joint in town. You gotta love those family type soft ass house wife gyms where loser people who are just there to socialize go in when all the bro's are getting their lift on and shut down the hardcore jams on the stereo (Ozzy, Disturbed, ACDC, etc, etc) to blare some good ol' Elton John or Sheryl Crow

the gym I work out in is basically a sweat shop. One big room with all the free weights a couple basic machines. There is a small area for cardio (2 treadmills, 2 stairsteppers, and a bike) Main thing I love is 90% of the people that come in there outweigh me by atleast 30 lbs. Talk about motivation.

I workout at a serious fitness gym that is very well equipped. The good part about it is that most of the people there are very serious about their training. That just creates a great atmosphere for lifting.

At home, no interuptions. Only bad thing is I'm running out of space. Got a smith machine gym that has the pec dec/lat pull down. Got a VKR/Dip stand, a bicep/tricep machine, curl bar, dumbells, and a tread mill. I like coming home from work and not having to go anywhere else to get a workout. Wish I had room to add a leg press/hack squat though. That would require a nice investment in another load of olympic plates.

I guess it is what ever you fell comfortable with. I would hate going to a local gym, gold's or where ever and getting interupted by people asking questions, or just friends saying hi, or even having to worry about all those cute girls watching. HA!

    Stay strong!

well, technically..my gym is supposed to be what joins the little local town with the little local college..but really it's just a cartoon

    4 bikes, 4 steppers, 6 ellipticals
horizontal leg press, leg curl, extension
assisted dip, shoulder press, chest press
lat pull, tall adjustable cable, cable crossover
3..count em 3 adjustable flat benches
dumbells ranging from 2 to 85 pounds...and nobody complains
    premade barbells...20 to 100 in 10# increments

and if you really feel into it, you can use the 1/11 of a mile track that overlooks a double basketball court that generally houses at least one aerobics class....generally pretty good equipment....great for the cardio bunnies

I dont know how to vote. My gym is a family gym I guess because it has a 'girls only' part, it has yoga and dancing classes and spinning, etc...BUT at any given time (I workout at 3:30pm), there are less than 10-15 people in the whole gym! Ive never had to wait for a machine or dumbells. and the people i lift with are all pretty hardcore. its actually a pretty sweet deal. we kinda own the gym.

Have any of you Canadians (Toronto area) ever worked out in a gym called "Fitness West" ? I'm not sure if this is a franchise thing like Gold's gym, or if it's just one gym they opened up here in the Mississauga/Etobicko area. Was thinking about joining it. Me and my friend are tired of working out at the University ALL the time, and wanted a change for the summer. It's pretty cheap, only $35 bux a month. No registration fee either.

currently i belong to a decent gym called fitquest...lame name, lame people for the most part, but a large selection of equipment and all of it is new. i know the guy who opened it and he has tried to make it cater to serious lifters while having appeal to the masses. a good idea, but as of late it has been a llamafest. most days when i go in at my usual time i can count on an interruption free workout and minimal circus action...the music played is atrocious but i bring my own music. as soon as my membership runs out im off to greener pastures.
