5' 5" isn't really short. Yeah, you should be fine on most all bikes. Ducati's are hot, but a little over-priced IMO.

Ducati's are beautiful bikes, but there's nothing about a Ducati that makes it worth twice as much as a R1, Gixxer, Ninja, or CBR. Same thing with Buell, Aprilla, BMW, Laverda, etc, etc. There's not a stock italian bike out there that'll hold a candle to my mine.
