    anyone have an umbilical hernia??

I've had it for a while - doesn't seem to be any bigger than before, but when I drink or eat past a certain point it swells up a bit and gets uncomfortable - I've heard you can get it fixed and a mesh put in.

Any idea how much it costs?
    Is it inpatient? Outpatient?
    Recuparation time?

Thanks for the info. Now if a civilian chimes in and tells me how much it costs, I'm in.

    me

i've got a very small one.

it's been there for about two years. i think it was created from doing heavy deadlifts (500+ lbs).

anyway, if it causes you pain i suggest you go and get it fixed.

I've had an umbilical hernia since I was 4 according to my dad whose a surgeon so I think he knows. It flares up every now and then and I'm just waiting until I need something else done that requires bed rest. It has gotten a little bigger the last few years as I'mm lifting heavier. I'll probably get it fixed in the next year.

Why concerned about price? You're using insurance, I hope. If not, the outpatient ambulatory and anesthesia alone is going to be over $1500, not to mention the surgeon who'll probably charge another 1000-1400.

I have had one for years. Caused by extreme coughing believe it or not, and not lifting. It has never been a real prob for me but I will fix it some day.
