Is this true about Texas???
Knew a good bro I worked with, traveled on business alot...
One night there was like 5 of us... Dude from Texas... Me
a born and bread Jersey knucklehead... A bro from NYC, a
bro from Chicago and a bro from North Jersey...
So the dude from Texas after about 15-16 beers starts talkin
openingly about all kinds of things... Actually all of us did and
he says how he hates mutha phuckers from New York and the
only thing he hated worst was assholes from New Jersey... lol
Well he said this without know where any of us were from...
so now we have 2 Jersey boys, and a NYC boy busting his
balls about how backwards Texas is and he was telling us
even though we'll all cool drinking together, that if we were
to trespass on his property in Texas and say be trying to
break into his truck that legally he could shoot and kill us
and since he know knew we were from Jersey and NYC he
would and the brotha wasn't kidding one bit about that ****...
It was kind of funny cus to me that stuff is funny, been told that
**** before and i'm still here, so i just laughed and we all started
busting his balls, but i'll tell you what that big Texas boy put away
at least 24 beers and still walked with no problem back up to his
hotel room that night...
You Texas bros are crazy mofos and you all can drink like crazy too...
I put away at least 15 screwdrivers and i was the lightweight of
the group... What a business ****ing trip that was.... Got
kicked out of a strip joint, almost got into a fight with 5-6 bouncers
cus one of our business bros was caught sucking on a tit right out
in the open kind of against the dancers will... we would have wrecked
them all with the crew we had of about 9-10 of us and all pretty big
boys... also almost got arressed for driving like assholes back to the
hotel... caused a scene anywhere and everywhere we went and were
all were hung over for the flight home after 4 days on the road drinking
and hell raising everynight...
I miss those days...Last edited by Jack87; 10-10-2004 at 06:09 PM.

Yeah, some of backwoods parts of Texas have people like that. Its not all like that though. Houston and Dallas are all gansta thugged out, and Austin is full of hippies, students, and professors.
One that is kinda true about Texas is people and their guns. Even the "normal" people have guns and sh-t. Ya see a bunch of student stoner types getting high at the springs one day, then see em hunting deer or birds the next day. Sheet, I need to pick myself up a gun...=P

In Texas we have the right to protect our property with deadly force. couple of months ago some dude had road rage on somone who cut him off when they stopped at a light dude got out and started calling the guy that cut him off out and then punched his window out guy in the car got his gun out and put two in the guys chest. Then he set his gun on his seat with his concelled(sp) handgun license and called the cops and his lawyer cops came took a statement from witnesses and let him go.

It's definately a little different here. I started hunting when I was 11, got my first kill at 12, and now I own more guns than underwear. I don't think any of my friends I had while growing up didn't have a gun, it's just a way of life.

Lest you go off thinking we always dispatch trespassers etc without a care in the world, let me tell you, it isn't quite that simple. Yes, in Texas you may defend yourself or your property with deadly force. You may use deadly force to recover property that you reasonably believe you could not otherwise recover. You can cap some guy for engaging in an "act of criminal mischief" during the hours of darkness, and this term is defined rather loosely. You may act with deadly force in defense of a neighbor or a neighbor's property. You may use deadly force to prevent the escape of a dangerous criminal. Contrary to the old cliche, you don't have to "drag him onto your property" either. BUT... every shooting death must, by law, be reviewed by a grand jury, no matter if a dozen cops saw the perp steal your car and TV, rape your wife, take your kids as hostage and shoot at you first. Your legal defence is unlikely to cost less than 10k. Figure ten times that if you get an overzealous liberal left-wing prosecutor out to make a name for himself. Even if it is a bogus case over a straight-up clean shooting, your life is on hold. You may lose your job, your house, all sorts of crap. The same prosecutor who tried to hang the last guy who shot a criminal, who tried to rip the poor guy a new ***hole for using a frangible round like Glasers or premium hollow-points, will try to make you out to be a reckless maniac for using ball ammo instead. You got to understand, there will probably be someone there trying to SCREW you and put you in prison for 20 years or more. Your worst enemy in court is usually, believe it or not, your own big mouth. They will use your own words to hang you even if you are straight-up, a righteous victim who prevailed through the exercise of your second amendment rights and your natural right to self defense.
So, yeah... of course you can cap a bad guy who invades your home or technically who even steals the newspaper from your yard. Hey, if he wanted to live, he shouldn't have done that! Nevertheless, this doesn't happen every day. You are playing russian roulette with your freedom. A sensible person kills only incidentally to stopping a dangerous person from causing serious harm to someone. The risk is great. The price for not pulling that trigger must outweigh the odds in court.
It is a sobering thing, pointing a gun at another human being. Even if the guy in your sights "deserves" to die, having the power to instantly end his life is a scary thing. Is his life worth more, or less, than that stereo he ripped from your ride? Is the principle worth more? Is it such a good thing to be removing another criminal from the streets that you feel morally obliged to kill? Serious questions that most folks can't honestly answer until they have been in that situation.
Texans probably shoot fewer people than they do where I live now, in New Orleans. Particularly in rural areas, guns are tools. They are part of the social and cultural background. They are omnipresent and unremarked. In urban areas, they have a mystique. They are magic. They give a frustrated youth a way to feel empowered, masculine... master of his own destiny and that of others. Where people grow up around guns, going hunting and plinking with older brother, father, uncle, grandpa from an early age, they are seldom abused and used against other humans only as a last resort, for the most part. Where kids first see guns on TV and have not even any informal training with firearms, they have no respect for the power that they convey to the user. Kid steals a gun or trades some crack for it, he's gotta show it off, throw his weight around with it, maybe cancel some guy who "dissed" him or argued with him. Don't think Texas is such a dangerous place just because it is "okay" to shoot a criminal. I feel a hell of a lot safer around a bunch of law abiding citizens packing heat than I do in a place where honest men are prohibited by law from carrying a gun, and only the criminals and cops have them.

Well said bro! I totally agree. We are just like anyone else, if you push us too hard, we will use excessive force. But we don't go out looking to shoot someone for a power trip.

Just so you know. Texans are generally very honest people. They are also very loyal, once you are a friend, you are a friend for life. In Texas you might get into a bar fight with a guy then he'll by you a beer for being a good competitor. You can shoot people if they are on your property. Everyone including your hairdresser, florist and Kindergarten teacher carries a gun or owns a few at home. Texans love to cook out and drink beer. If you need help, just ask! Most Texans you partied with on Sat night will be singing in the choir on Sunday. Good God fearing people. We have hearts as big as the state, and will help if you are in trouble, and we give it to you straight. I love Texas! You should come down here, I will be happy to show you around!

Texas does have the "Make My Day" Law, but you must have been there (or he must be able to prove intent) to do him harm/put him in fear of injury.
