Will surfing AR get me in trouble at work???

Hey guys....sorry for the stupid question but I use a company laptop for work and I was wondering if I could get "flagged" for looking on AR while at work?? I know I would if I was looking and sending po*n from work email but I was just curious as to what they look for wen you surf the web from work? Would AR raise any flags?? I rarely ever post from work, mostly just reading and stuff like that. Any IT gus in here that can shed some light for me??? Thanks guys!!

Well, I havent even been here 2 months, so I definitely dont want to get fired over it, and (not bragging) I work for a top fortune 400 company, so its not like I'm a secretary at a mom and pop business either, so I know they monitor stuff, i just dont know how exactly they monitor the websites you go to and even if ster!*d websites will raise an eye brow, or just nudie sites and stuff like that????

I lost my job over it. I work with professional and collegiate athletes and you know how paranoid the sporting world is with AAS usage. Me accessing this site from the office had my ass canned. I didnt even distribute gear, use gear at the time, talk to athletes bout gear, but that was all it took. I would say be careful for sure.

I wouldnt do it bro. Why even surf anything at all on your work laptop? Thats just begging for trouble. I work for a fortune 10 company and they monitor EVERYTHING. If I recall there was a thread on here a few weeks ago about someone letting us know he got fired from work for surfing AR.

Well to be honest MOST company detection methods work ont he basis of keywords... you go onto a porn site and the word "****" is displayed then the page would be flagged. The assumption is you are not going to be using sites with language like this, why would you need to. SO it depends on what keywords they are using, BUT all i have to do now is say the word "PORN" and if they scan this page then you're in sh*t

I bet it's like all of them, in that you can get in trouble for exactly what you are doing. It's just a matter of "when" they decide to utilize "hey, it's written right here", etc etc.....
I surfed for 2 years, then they wanted to take me down, and that surfing turned into drowning in one big ass wave of EVIDENCE on the table in front of me!



Seriously, ALL major companies (**** sure a fortune cookie 400, lol) have a restricted usage of company Internet/E-mail policy. Just don't give them a reason to look at you. Or, they may monitor you now, I've no idea.

As an IT guy, they don't need to look at your computer, if you are using their LAN to access the internet, many use products that keep track of where you go. I used a product by Elron software called Web Inspector. I would have to say, it's scary very scary. I would say this "is surfing worth loosing your job over?" If you say no then just do it from home, the posts are not going anywhere.

Can they get ahold of your credit card number if you purchase something over a secure site? If it is a secure site, does the number just go from you to them and nobody else can see it? I dont use my CC on the computer. I always look for 1-800 #'s to call. I was just wondering.

I got fired for it as well. They had my logs laid out on the table in front of me with the times etc.. that i was on here.

Officially it was "Excessive Internet Usage, Non-work related".

I am at my new job now at the front desk, they don't have any policy that i am aware of.
