my first job was working at a garden center ... we got this question a lot. you can go to a local garden center and pick up rabbit repellant. won't kill or harm them, just would keep them away.

Have they beeen breaking into the house and moving the furniture around again MBH? Seeing how you can't shoot them, which is a crying shame cause rabbit is good eating, how about some traps?
-

Some live traps would work great. Then boil the bastards.

Get a bb gun and shoot them if you can't use a real gun. Or maybe put some rat poison in the rabbit food. If it kills NYC rats I am sure it will do the same for rabbits.

Oh I just thought of something. Do a web search for "have-a-heart" traps or maybe it is spelled "hav-a-heart" or "hav-a-hart" but anyway they are really cool live traps available in sizes for anything from mice to medium size dogs. Then you can fatten and purge them for a couple of weeks and eat them, or just humanely destroy them or even release them where they will either melt harmlessly into the bush or damage property belonging to someone you don't particularly like. I knew a guy up in Baltimore used to "hunt" squirrels with a couple of them. Guy with no gun, lived in an urban area, and had squirrel stew or pie whenever he felt like it. Kewl, or what?

get some snares. They are really thin guaged cable with a "keeper" on the end. You make a loop and the conceal it on thier pathways. use a stake or a heavy object to keep the rabbit and snare stationary after it has been caught. look it up on the net-snares and traps- should give you good info. Also maybe there is a fur merchant someway nearby. I used to trap(snare) foxes in the winter to help pay for some college. I can honestly say it is like christmas when you go out there checking them. You never know if you will have all your snares full, or nuthin at all. I garentee you if you so some reading and research you will not be disappointed and they will be wiped out around your house in no time. Plus if you want to eat them they a okay to eat too. Check this out you wil not be disappointed

Have you tried firearms?? Automatic ones work for ridding backyards of all flavors of nuisance rodents; from mice to window salesmen!

Okay guys. Guns ain't gonna happen in the city. Snares...I would get charged with cruelty to animals. Traps may work...but some bleeding heart tree hugger would see it and free the animal.
I'm going to call the humane society and ask their recommendation. Or I just may take poisonous mouse pellets...grind them up...and mix them in with quick oats. Rabbits love oats!! Sorry officer...I was doing it to rid mice.

The air rifle is a good idea. Get some either pointed or hollow point pellets and they should do the trick w/ one shot. Granted you hit it. Or a paintball gun w/ frozen balls will knock em out. Are fireworks legal in Canada?
-

Guys I can't use a gun...of any type. I would charged if caught...and I have a lot of neighbors. Even with a frozen paintball I would bet I would get charged. I have to do something "legal" or put something down the block away from my house. I have to play this smart with no connections back to me...except if I opt for a live trap.

How about a slingshot and steel ball bearings? Or a bow, or crossbow? Spear? I know... a pit lined with punji stakes. Make sure the mailman doesn't walk that way.
-
12-08-2004, 02:47 PM #36
I agree....the sling shot should work. Silent and undetectable. Just practice for a bit first with some bottles or cans.
-
12-08-2004, 02:54 PM #37
Okay guys...let me explain this one last time. I cannot shoot them with anything! I live in a heavily populated area and my neighbors have eyes and ears. I do not want to get charged!!!
-
12-08-2004, 02:55 PM #38
Yes practice first MBH......you don't want one of them squirrels drawing his weapon before you. hahahahaha
How about a flute......then you could do one of those old Pied Pipper deals. hahahaha
Try the traps first bro.....if that doesn't do the trick then no one will blame you for dressing up in your ninja outfit and running around in the dark slicing and dicing. hahahaha
