I've ran across a lot of these sites. Does anyone know if they're legit? They advertise that you can make an extra $500 a month taking surveys online. A lot of the sites have a one time membership fee of $30.00 or something, but say that you recuperate that cost almost instantly by taking surveys. I'm still weary. Anyone know whether these sites are legit?

No, these sites are not legit. Use your common sense, bro. Why would you have to pay someone $30 to take THEIR surveys so they could pay you $500?

If you're naive enough to join, you'll probably find that you're either asked a ton of personal questions that no one would answer OR you're required to answer so many surveys within a short amount of time that you're not able to complete them and earn your $500.

Think about this:
If someone walks up to you and asks if they can buy $500 from you for just $30 bucks, would you give them the $500? Of course not.

My wife has a friend who does this. It's actually her boyfriend that owns the company. They gave my wife a password and gave her the directions to set it up. She has gotten about 2 surveys over the past 18months and hasn't got paid. Can you imagine if she paid.
