Eurofighter typhoon - Britain places new order

Yup, the UK has just placed an order for a further 89 eurofighters (typhoon). The jet has been in development for the past 20 years, at a cost at over 19 Billion and counting. The fighter is regarded as one of the best multi role jets out there today, excelling in attack, defensive and support roles.

A pretty cool looking jet huh?

bro do you have ANY idea how much it costs to build and maintain an f22?! its almost double the eurofighter, and when it comes to the crunch theres not a great deal that f22 has on the eurofighter.

In some cases the Eurofighter Typhoon beats the F-22

Considering the budget the UK and europe has, and the amount that the US spends on defense and development, the Typhoon is one hell of a jet

the raptor is more than twice as effective as the eurofighter, thats why it costs twice as much.

Im not taking anything away from the eurofighter, its a bad ass jet as well, i would just prefer a raptor is all im saying..... And if all goes to plan ill be flying one in a few years....

    DERA study

Britain's Defence Evaluation and Research Agency (now split into QinetiQ and DSTL) did an operational evaluation comparing the Typhoon with some other modern fighters in how well they performed against an expected adversary aircraft, the Sukhoi Su-35.

The study used real pilots flying the JOUST system of networked simulators. Various western aircraft were put in simulated combat against the Su-35. The results were:

    Aircraft Odds vs.
    Su-35
    Lockheed Martin/Boeing F-22 Raptor 10.1:1
    Eurofighter Typhoon 4.5:1
    Dassault-Breguet Rafale C 1.0:1
    Sukhoi Su-35 'Flanker' 1.0:1
    McDonnell Douglas F-15C Eagle 0.8:1
    Boeing F/A-18+ 0.4:1
    McDonnell Douglas F/A-18C 0.3:1
    General Dynamics F-16C 0.3:1

These results mean, for example, that in simulated combat, 4.5 Su-35s were shot down for every Typhoon lost.

Its not really a matter of which one is better, you cannot compare them as they are used for different roles, and designed as such. The typhoon is a multi role jet and the raptor is a strike jet.

The Raptor costs $250mil and the Typhoon costs $70.

The raptor is $152mil, not 250, and I agree with you that the eurofighter is equipped with some sick bombs, and the laser system is kick ass as well. But be honest messy, if you got to choose one, cost aside, would you honestly pick the eurofighter? Seriously now, the Raptor does mach 2!!!!

both are very skilled, you cant say one is better than the other because it comes down to the individual skill of each pilot....
