Finding a way around sky high car insurance rates?

I'm getting totally F'ed to the tune of 500 dollar a month car insurance, since I drove on a suspended license about a year and a half ago, and haven't had insurance in the past 60 days (I'm also young, and single). So now the quotes I've gotten are sky high. My apparent only option is to get an older car and go with only liability, which would be about $200 dollars a month. I don't want to drive a junker, but I don't wanna risk running around with an expensive car and no coverage. This blows. I'm trying to pool you guys together, since we have such a wide variety of professions here. Anybody know a way around it?

Oh, and I've already tried getting on a relatives insurance, but their company (allstate) said that the policy would be dropped because I was "high-risk". Horse****.

you think you have it bad..i live in NY i dont know how it is where you live but everyday your car is registered and you dont have coverage they charge you $8 a day..it's cheaper for me to get charged the $8 then to get minumum coverage on my car....insurance is phucking robbery

I pay about $600/mth myself right now, and have tried 10000 ways to lower it...

You can't... your best bet is to wait it out with an older car and liability...

Jesus, man. Where are you getting that cash from. Furthermore, that is canadian currency, so it still only amounts to $7.13 a month in USD.

Naw, it's over $600/mth, which = $500mth US...

I don't have the $... therefore, no winter car for me... hence why I like to drive something nice during the summer months, which are far and few between up here :wg:

I will. I'm a little worried about them checking my credit... not that it's bad, just that it goes down everytime it's checked. I called and they said it's a "soft hit" and that it doesnt affect ratings, but I'm not sure.

Honestly, bad or not-so-good credit is going to get you. If you have a bad record and bad credit, they are going to screw you because you are deemed a "high risk" not only for insurance purposes, but being able to pay them.

It's not that. I have good credit, I don't want them constantly pulling it to check my credit, because everytime your report gets pulled, it affects your rating.

What if I don't report my infractions? Is that illegal? They have to find out eventually and raise my rates, but will that land me in fraud territory?

You just have to find the right insurance agency phone aroud and see who can give you the best deal.I got an impaired when i was 18 my insrance whant through the roof. im now 25 have plenty of tickets and pay less for insrance than i ever have. i just found the right place.
