    Tivo question!!!

Does anyone have Tivo? I think this would be a great device to have in the home. The only thing that turns me off is the monthly subscription. Is Tivo the only show in town or are there other options where you don't have to pay monthly subscription. (replay TV?)

you can hook up ur tv to your pc and record the shows onto ur hard drive. so many people are doing that instead of the tivo. i got one from my girlfriend and i sent it back. i dont need another piece of electronics around, especially one with a monthly fee.

its easy to do from what i hear. dont waste ur money.

I will have to check this out. One thing that I like aboutt the tivo is the ability for it to autorecord. Usually i forget a good show is about to come on. for example, i like watching the poker shows, but i am rarely around to see. this sort of thing would come in handy that's for sure

No? It records from your TV straight onto your pc. Streams both ways.

I have a tivo and had it for about 2 years now. It is the best thing i have ever purchased. Make sure you buy the one with the most hours of recording time. I like to tape my shows and watch them at my convenience. Also I love that I can pause live tv when the phone rings or whatever and press play when im done. Not to mention you can rewind what you are watching just in case you missed something. I love it and would reccomend it to anyone.

30 or 40 hrs. but still not enough. I bought it when they first came out and purchased the middle model. They are pricy but worth it.

Can't you upgrade the internal HD in the Tivo yourself? It's a regular IDE drive. We have a Tivo like setup using a PC. Bought a tuner card, snapstream beyond TV software and I bought a high speed 300gig HD to use for it. Plus I have an external 250gig HD I use to backup shows I want to keep and eventually burn to DVD.

I bought the Dlink piece so we can stream it to the living room.

We have it setup. It doesn't record to the PC. It only streams one way from the PC to watch video or listen to music on the home theater.

The video looks good. Whatever resolution you encode to your PC it will display on the TV in the same resolution. The audio streaming sounds good. You can listen to mp3s from your HD or stream radio.

I have a satellite tv receiver that is a digital video recorder. It has the ablility to record 100 hours of tv and it is great, I can record one channel while watching another.
If I really want to be ambitious, I can record TWO channels at the same time and watch something off the hard drive.
