    Any builders in here ?

Just a quick question. I want to open up my stairs and basicaly wanted to know if the job is as straight forward as it looks. The wall in question has a cupboard under the stairs which could make valuble space in my front room.

The job looks easy but is there any hidden problems with this ?

I'm a GC, question is kinda vague. Depending on construction technique, joist direction of floor above, bearing wall questions etc.etc. Kinda like a can of worms, you won't know until you open it up. I have repaired many problems associate with wall removals and poor remodeling technique. You could enlist the aid of a structural engineer to determine if it is feasible, cost around $200 here. They will let you know what to do if any additional reinforcemnets are needed. Money well spent in my opinion.SG1

the downstairs joist run in the same direction as the stairs and the upstairs ones run the opposite way so I dont think it is a supportng wall.
