Are you talking paid or voluneteer? Here you fill out an application and go through the interview process. For volunteer firefighters here they have an academy once a year. After you go through that, then you can go through EMT training. Some require Firement to also be EMT's.

So go to your local firehouse and ask to talk to the fire chief or training sgt and go from there. You can also go to your local library and check out the training study guide for the exam or go on line and order it.

Good luck. I was supposed to do it a few years ago and got hurt in a car accident so I couldn't go to the academy . Ended up better for me because I prefer being a LEO.

    2. YES, SHE can get pregnant the first time!
    3. NO, PULLING out IS NOT a RELIABLE method of Birth Control. DAMMMMIT..... Wrap that shyte UP!!

Women over 30 are dignified. They seldom have a screaming match with you at the opera or in the middle of an expensive restaurant. Of course, if you deserve it, they won't hesitate to shoot you, if they think they can get away with it.

For all those men who say, "Why buy the cow when you can get the milk for free". Here's an update for you. Nowadays 80% of women are against marriage, why? Because women realize it's not worth buying an entire Pig, just to get a little sausage.

    yes i am

i assume your wanting career level?

call around, see when the next process is happening, and what is required

if its tough in your area, go get EMT-B certified. will cost around 600 bux and about 6mo worth of classes, pretty easy though. if you can, find a firefighter I/II class. i havent taken one yet, but will be in the spring. this will greatly increase your chance of getting on. save your reciepts too, many will reinburse

if you want volunteer, no biggie, just walk in and then go through the basic training (36hr + 12hr hazmat course where i live) check it out good though. find out how many runs they do a year. it would suck if they only do like 200-300 a year. get at least 500 a year. make sure its not some hillbilly **** either, unless you like that

basically, you need to find out whats up in your area. you may be able to get on without doing anything besides applying, maybe not.

go for it though, i love it. i work at a part-time/volunteer dept. we serve over 10,000 and get about 20 structure fires a year. over 800 runs a year. lots of fun, but TONS of work. they seem to leave out all the work on the movies. its nothing like what you see, you see maybe only 10% of the **** in ladder 49. tons more!

its definately worth it though...one of the best decisions ive ever made

So your just a volunteer? im looking to go career... do you know what base pay is? i know it would vary from location but like an idea??
most importantly, are you saying that i should find those classes and and try to get in without becoming volunteer? or you recommend doing both? ..
also becoming a volunteer what does that require as in like Time/availablity?? just because i need to have a full time job while i go through the processes...
one last question- do you know if Firefighter Exam Preparation Book Norman Hall's 2nd Ed is any good?? thanks alot for the help..

no, we are somewhere in between vol and full time, we do shifts and have off station responce as well. we get paid anywhere from 7-43 bux a call

if you get on a full time dept, you wont want to work anywhere else, cause expect your life to be brutal hell during fire school, which will last about 6months. you will get paid full time salary though. its will range in your area... www.salary.com may help. most fireman have private business on the side due to the 24hr shifts they work it leaves alot of open time for things.

if you can get it in like you are right now, ya go for it. if you cant, then look for those classes. if you still cant get in (maybe your area is really strict or doesnt really need anyone that bad unless they are really good) then look into doing some vol dept.

you shouldnt need that book if you pay attention in class. they will give you materials to use anyways.

I am a career firefighter/paramedic in Michigan bro. To get hired where I work you need a minimum of an associate degree, fire 1+2 certs, hazmat ops cert, and state of Michigan paramedic license or National registry paramedic license. A little different from you rudy flipflop wearing volunteers with the **** lightbars on your escorts. J/K were all bros in the same boat. PM if you need any other help I'd be glad to help you become a hosehead, an awesome profession bro.

I'm a career firefighter in New Orleans. Just had to apply with Civil Service and they notified me of the written examination. After passing the written exam they scheduled me for the agility test, psychological test, and drug test. All training was done on the job. It was mandatory to pass firefighter 1 and 2.
