Rice and pea, and, Ackee and Salt fish.

Yea so a girl at work cooked this for everyone the other day, never had Ackee before, or salt fish for that matter. The rice was cooked in coconut milk which is also new to me. Her BF is Jamacian so. I quite liked it actually!

    Anyone else had this?

For 19 months......not to bad. Apperantly you've not had a boiled bananna either? The rice and peas cooked with coconut milk I like a lot. There's a pretty good Jamician shop downtown that I stop in every week or so to grab a bite. Ever had Jerk?

I think the Pamento wood plays a leading roll in the outcome of that dish. I've tried cooking it over oak and it's not quit the same.

Boiled banana isn't bad..depends on a variety of things...if you have certain dishes in the parent country it usually tastes different tho IMO

Just mention to her that you'd like to try some Jerk and if she doesn't make you some I'll bet she'll know where to send you. I don't think your allowed to live on the island if you can't cook good Jerk.

Well, when you're used to bangers, mash and mushy peas I guess anything will make ya feel cultured!

He he he! Just joking bro...

But seriously, I'm not quite sure why the UK gets such a bad rap around the world when it comes to food... some of the best meals I've ever had were in London. Granted they were all "foreign", but still... wow. Good stuff.

Your right though mate, in the UK we eat all types of food, there isnt really "British" food per say. I had Thai food at a top notch restaurant the other day, was gorgeous.

Never had "escoveithed fish", I heard of it though. When you said coco bread did you meant coconut bread or just coacoa?

With the quotation marks, I assume you are mocking my spelling perhaps of escoveitch??? Try some...its good...When I visited family there, they made it for breakfast which was weird...

I meant cocoa...its gotta be warm though!!
