The subjects/theories in the first post on this thread were all drawn directly from a book called "Chariots of the Gods" by Erik Von Daniken. And most of the ones raised later on, though not drawn directly from his book, are simply further elaborations to his thesis. They are interesting in their own right, but the theory that modern civilization and technology is the product of alien beings, or 'astronauts', who visited earth in the distant past is the original brainchild of Erich Von Daniken and was first presented back in the 60's. It's an entertaining, imaginative, and sometimes thought-provoking thesis, though not very compelling. Anyone that has taken a serious interest in the subjects of archaeology, culture, religion, mythology and the like, and has aquired enough of a background in them beforehand, can see how transparent and fallacious Von Daniken's arguments are. They have all long since been thoroughly refuted or debunked.

Even more incredulous to me though is that this thesis was apparently expounded as a highly plausible, uncontroversial, approach to the subjects involved - i.e. Ancient Egypt, or ancient civilizations in general - in a public educational setting. What kind of school/class was this? What kind of 'professor'? He/she sounds extremely 'new-agey' in their presentation of these subjects. To me, it's about on par with Creationism.

While many mysteries remain, there are many books and sites that detail the fallacies in his reasoning (and that of many of his followers) as well as some of the outright lies/deceptions in his book. One such book - "Crash Go The Chariots" by Clifford Wilson - gives a point by point refutation including some issues that were raised here such as:

"True but to keep such perfect lines and at such a large size is pretty wild. But that still leaves the statues on Easter Island to explain."

The Easter Island statues have been explained (for quite some time apparently) by the very decendants of the people that created them, who still collectively preserve those memories. Modern day Easter Islander's recreated the details of their creation, transportation and assembly to satisfiy the curiosity of some western investigators, and the results were far from astronomical - they were simply the products of a concerted group effort with a common goal. Human, all too human.

And many aspects of the Egyptian pyramids, including the 'flat' ones you mentioned, are equally mundane. They have been found by other investigators to be neither as mathematically precise nor as cosmologically unexplainable as we have been led to believe by some extravagant interpretists. As one of my Archaeology professors once explained, the pyramids, if considered as an engineering project, would get most beginning engineering students a failing grade. They are one of the simplest design solutions possible - all of the structural weight bulked at the bottom and tapered up to the top. Wow. Revolutionary.

today in class........we were discussing egypt. i've never really cared for egypt or anything in or around that area but today my professor got me extremely interested in the fact that we don't know who or what built these 3 flat pyramids of egypt. of course, theres plenty of pyramids in mexico, peru, africa, brazil, hell all over the world but from he was telling us theres something extremely diffrent about these pyramids in egypt. they are all flat unlike the other pyramids all over the world. the ones all over the world are made by steps but not these. he was telling us how archeologists are saying that these pyramids were actually made before 0 b.c. or whatever. he also said he beleives that there is no possible way that man at that point of life could actually put together that pyramid. he was explaining to us that this is the year 2005 and man w/ all techology and help still cannot build a identical replica of these pyramids to the mathimatical point as it is built and the more we learn about these pyramids the more we get lost cause as soon as they think they think the find the missing peice of the puzzle they get puzzled by the missing peice again. another thing he explained to us that on earth there are many energy fields and that for some reason these pyramids are built on the biggest energy field on earth. the next if im not mistaken is the stonehedge which also is a mystery on how they put those 2 ton stones together and on top of each other at that point of man kind. he also then explained his theory on how he thinks extra terrestrials came from another planet to build these things sort of as radio signals of some kind. he then showed us a slide of something in africa if im not mistaken which are like signs of dogs and cats and a huge "man" that looked like an alien with a club and a erected penis. he made a point on how people can walk through these things and not even notice but they are made for aerial view and who else better to see them then aliens. these "signs" of what have you were then placed with some kind of chalk so grass or weeds or anything will not grow. smart idea yet from what he told us nobody knows who did this. he also stated that these pyramids had crystal caps i guess for lighting of some sort and that most or any alien caught by the US have been very close to pyramids such as brazil, peru, mexico which has nothing to do with egypt but why the great interest in pyramids? whats so important about these things? who made them? and what are your (the members) outlooks and beleifs in this? there is no secret that the US or any government will confirm of UFO but i'd like to hear your comments on these issues. i'm still not too certain on what to beleive. my professor is a pretty smart man and he's told the class somethings other then this that has left us thinking so i dunno.

1) Pyramids- It is possible for aliens to create them, but it is also possible the previous existence on earth to build them who was probaly alot more advanced in aspects that were useful on earth. No they didnt have Ipods, Playboy, Laptops, or cars, but they had intelligence a far more powerful tool.

if there are aliens who are in invisible ships (some kind of transportation) nearby earth then theese aliens must have incredibly long lifespans. the closest star is a few light years away. We have proven taht it is impossibel to travel at or faster than the speed of light. So then these aliens must know some physics that we dont know... or perhaps they have enormously long lifespans (1000s of years?)

first it will expand int oa red giant and eventually exhaust all its fuel and turn into a white dwarf at which point it will still give off radiation with much less intensity

I think the pyrimids were constructed in dense forest. All land, trees, food,soil were used up during consruction. hense the desert today. No Aliens or gay Atlantians.
