I disagree. If they knew what they were doing they'd have had their hands 1 inch under the bar the entire time, with fingers interlocked, tracking the bar's path. If anything happens, they can catch the bar without even having to think about it because they're already in position.

500 or 600 ain't **** with good spotters. Someone missed a 900 bench at our gym the other day and we had it up and into the rack in less than a second.
