*Thinking about getting a BIKE for summer

With gas prices expected to get to $3 a gallon in my area Im thinking about getting a bike for the summer. Im leaning towards an R1 but what do you guys think? I dont like the GSXR1300...its too bulky looking, I like the open rear fender and wheelwell. Give me some ideas...

I'd go with the Vespa myself.

Yeah, the R1 is not for a novice. The new Kawi 600's are hot right now. I've always had ZX7's but I like the TL1000R myself. Busa's are very cool.

I second that, that is IF you've never had a bike get something smaller and a beater cause it's going to get banged up. Cause as a new rider it's not about if you drop it but when you drop it and scratching up the fairings it gets real expensive.

So with that said, if you're already an experienced rider and I'm guessing you want a sport bike (I'm more into the cruisers these days) I'd get a Duc 749R.

    If you're experienced get the CBR1000. If you're a novice get the CBR600. That's my $0.02.

Go buy a R6 that was laid down with just damage to the covers, and replace them.

I had a CBR600 and it was sweet. If this will be your first for sure don't get an R1 or we will probably be hearing about you wrecking very soon. That's why most people get hurt or killed is because they get way more bike than they can handle. I have seen people on a 500 smoke an R1 on some twisties in the mountains just because they plain out know how to handle their bike. I wouldn't have believed it until I saw it but it's the truth.

If you want a sport bike then go with a 600. The plastic is expensive as hell to replace, so make sure you won't lay it down. If you think you might, then get one with some cosmetic damage. You'll get the bike cheaper plus you wont have to be walking on egg shells with it.

I had a GSXR 750 years ago but only had it for 2 months. SOmeone stole it. Im not into twisties or even going really fast...I just want something that looks good and I can cruise around town in. BUT im not into cruisers, only sport bikes for now.

This is the bike I would get if i was serious about purchasing one. Yamaha R1. The only reason I am not getting it is because theres just too many bad drivers around and 1 mistake could prove to be fatal.
