    Friend blew himself away.

I got a call yesterday that a guy I knew put a gun to his head and pulled the trigger. He wasn't really a friend, more like a friend of some friends. An acquaintance if you will. I wasn't too fond of his cocky attitude and he was a bit obnoxious but it was nothing personal. Most of our friends have moved out of town or out of state so I had to make a bunch of phone calls to let them know the bad news. The weird thing is, this guy was a pallbearer with me last year and helped me carry another friends coffin. The funeral is Sunday and I don't know if I should go. I really don't need another funeral but maybe I should go out of respect. I feel bad because he had two kids but he really ran his life into the ground so it's hard to have any sympathy for him. I mean I don't know exactly why he did what he did but the guy had everything going for him so I don't understand it. He was messed up with a lot of shady people and doing drugs so I guess he just spiraled out of control. Any thoughts?

If someone took the time to call me to let me know he was gone I would go.

That's a good point. Thing is I just buried a close friend last year, and the year before that I had to drive up to Philly to watch another good friend pass from Leukemia. I know there will probably be some drama too because his wife hated his girlfriend and even punched her in the face once. All his new friends were bikers and they got pretty rowdy at the last funeral.

Yeah, I guess I'll go, but this is gonna suck. I'm still dealing with my other bro dying last year. It's going to be all the same people at this one. Like dejavu. You know what I'm saying?

I disagree... you have no reason to go (seeing that guy was not your friend)... 'going for the family's sake' is BS

Well I'm pretty sure if it was the other way around he wouldn't be at my funeral. We had mutual friends and that was it. We hung out a few times and I worked on his car once. I didn't even know his family. If I were to go it would be out of respect to my personal friends. But if they don't come back to town to go, should I go?

I'm sorry about ur friend. Personaly i don't have any respect or sympathy for anyone that commits suicide. I think its the easy way out of things n its a cowardly act

that's not necessarily true. I've know 3 people who have killed themselves (back in high school) and they had plenty of options. However, you said he was into drugs? They do nothing but blow problems out of proportion. I knew a kid who got in a fight with his girlfriend, took some lsd, then blew his head off with a 357.

Like it was stated above, if someone took the time to tell you, I'd pay some respects. I hate funerals as well, been to way too many of them and they are never easy. Especially if it was a friend or relative.

    good luck

I'd go just to pay respects...some day if you're in the position that there is a funeral for a loved on(God forbid), then you will appreciate everyone that comes for your family.

Most selfish thing you can do. Also the saddest thing. Suicide is wrong.
