What kind of computer security would a UG lab have to have to keep from getting busted?

what data are you going to be keeping that would be at risk??
hiding your IP traffic is what's important.. and use a secure email account..
that's all there is to it..
if you want to get fancy.. get a symantec 200 firewall device..The answer to your every question

and you can add snort to a linyx box that will work very well, at least let you know if someone has been on your network..

They make some pretty good encryption programs, but they slow the crap out of your computer...

We use this on all our laptops and desktops for work. Seems good and doesn't slow things down much at all:
