    Military personnel?

Hey I'm a newbie here and was just wondering how many other Marines/soldiers/sailors/airmen, are on this board?

I'm currently trying to get in the Corps myself...waiting for a vision waiver to go through...it's got me a little worried :\

Women over 30 are dignified. They seldom have a screaming match with you at the opera or in the middle of an expensive restaurant. Of course, if you deserve it, they won't hesitate to shoot you, if they think they can get away with it.

For all those men who say, "Why buy the cow when you can get the milk for free". Here's an update for you. Nowadays 80% of women are against marriage, why? Because women realize it's not worth buying an entire Pig, just to get a little sausage.

ah infantry, extremely badass. My eyes are really bad, heh...their refraction # cut off is 8 and my eyes are a 12. Hopefully the fact my ASVAB score is good and other stuff will help out. The Gunny @ the local MEPS said I have a 50/50 shot (and if they say no I can get laser surgery and try again, which I would). My buddy who's in says he's sure they'll pass it though....

Barbi, what do you do in the Navy?

another guy from my area had that problem. he had an iron cross (which they said was racist, although he got it for west coast choppers) and spent $600 to get it changed to something else. now i guess there's a line of people that have to o.k. it, and if any of them say "no" he can't get in. i think all their new tattoo rules are quite silly....i was going to get another one before i went to basic but my recruiter was like "no!"

    Former USAF MP, K-9 corps.
Trained big bad German Shepherds for patrol work and a meaner Cairn Terrier (like Toto) for drug sniffing.
If it's decent living conditions you want, go for the USAF. Usually get the best of everything. But if you like to camp out and sleep with the bugs, and don't mind taking your "dumps" without any privacy, then the Army or Marines are for you.

In the US Navy presently, former US Army...vision waivers are common occourences both a MEPS and once folks are in the service. You can look in the DoD MEDMAN or P-117 which is avail. on the net and see wiaver processess and maximums. This might give you a picture of how the process works.

    Ok, I guess.
First there's Basic training, where you will meet up with some of the rudest people on the face of the planet. After that, you'll go to either LE or SP (Law Enforcement or Security Police) school and learn the finer points of police work. Pay attention to the riot squad training, 'cause for sure, when you get to whatever base you are assigned to, they'll wanna do some further training on riot training there, and nobody will know what the xxxx they're doing.
Anyway, if you get a chance, volunteer for K9 when they ask ya. It's a good deal, and you get to work with a dog, and should you want to be a cop when you get out, you'll be able to do that, too. Besides, K9 school is lots of fun . . .
But once you get to your final destination, it's pretty much like a regular police job. You show up at the police station, sit through a briefing, then go out and patrol. Answer calls, look watchful, that sort of thing. Not much ever happens. As low man on the totem pole, if you don't have a dog, you'll probably end up pulling lots of gate guard duty, where you check out people driving their cars on to the base. Gets old in a hurry, lemme tell ya.
All in all, it's not too much unlike TV cops, only without all the drama. You might have to deal with a drunk at the airmen's club from time to time, but that's about it. If you have a patrol dog, when there's a disturbance, you'll be called out to flash your dog, because people tend to settle down in a hurry when they think someone might sic a K9 on 'em. They know you won't shoot 'em, but they dunno if you'll let the dog bite 'em, and they don't want that . . .

You'll like it. Keep your attitude up, you'll make of the experience what you want, so take advantage of the learning opportunities, eat as much of the free food as you can (it won't be free when you get out), and have a good time.

    Good luck,
    -Tock
