    Leg pain--Help

I have recently started running(3 weeks or so) and I am still having leg problems..

The problem is about 4-6 minutes into a run or jog my leg starts to cramp and feels very tight and painful.. Its the muscle opposite you calf muscle...So looking down at your legs its the muscle on the outside of your lower leg--Flex it by pulling your toes up..

Anyway this muscle becomes so tight that I cant run and can barely walk until it eases up.. It seems as if pressure builds up and I cant run, jog.. My feet are VERY flat, so that probably doesnt help..

I need to increase my running distance ASAP--
Any suggestions on what to do?
I have an appointment with a podiatrist tommorow, dont know if they can help

Why are you running, for cardio? Fat loss or endurance/conditioning?

I am thinking shin splints perhaps, but I dunno for sure.

Thats what I would guess too, I get them pretty bad from playing basketball once in a while. I stick to the bike for my cardio now thats for sure. You say you need to increase distance soon? Are you training for a race?

I get the exact same thing. Mine is so bad that I have to stop and sit down sometimes. I got it really bad when I did my cycle a couple of years ago. It was so bad, that I got it from just walking fast (not even running). It sucks. Mine went away when I came off cycle and my weight went down.

best bet is the stretch it, and get plenty of water.

and keep at it, the muscle will get use to the load slower but it still will.
