This case has gotten a lot of attention from the trans community. Yes, Gwen should have been more candid about her genital status. Unfortunately she was not forthcoming with those little details until what we call "sudden discovery" occurred. We will never be able to look inside her head and determine just what she was thinking while she was having sex with these unsuspecting young men, but the Mom's point of view was quite correct and valid. The whole concept of gender dysphoria is totally alien to a cisgendered person, but I will say this and hope you understand: SEX and GENDER are two different things. Gender is your identity, how you see yourself, your true nature. Sex is just what you happen to have between your legs. No, a penis does not make you a man. There are fundamental differences that go beyond that, like how you think, how you react, how you present yourself that seems most natural to you. A penis does not make you a man... it only makes you male. And of course you ignore the one out of approximately 10,000 births that are intersexed. Doctors have been playing God in this country for over a hundred years, "correcting" the misfortune of having ambiguous genitalia and therefore not falling properly into the boy/girl categories.

I doubt that I would have to tell you that I am not a genetic female. You would have to be pretty drunk to not notice. I am a rather big girl, if you get my drift. It takes a LOT of effort for me to pass as a genetic female, and even then I have to be satisfied to be a fat girl. It takes a lot of padding to balance out my back and shoulders with sufficient behind, and I have to give the illusion of a higher waist, and keep my hands out of sight.

I have never nad a trick or a lover that I tried to deceive about my sex. Those who do so are foolish. Sudden discovery has proven to be deadly in many other cases, not just that of Gwen Aruajo. She was foolish, but that was absolutely no reason to kill her. WTF... was it good, or not? Sheesh... those guys were not upset with her so much as upset with themselves, because in the face of all logic that says otherwise, they either consciously or subconsciously regarded themselves as having committed a homosexual act and therefore to be homosexual. Suddenly the sex that they had enjoyed was no longer sex that had been enjoyed. Everything was great until they found out that they were fags, which of course they were not. If they had been, they would have sought out those who they knew were men and who present themselves as men.

This was a case of extreme homophobia, pack instinct and desire for peer approval. Killing Gwen was not justice or even revenge, because all she did was please them sexually with her body. Discovery did not change the fact that they had enjoyed it. She deceived, but did not harm anyone. They killed her to satisfy their sense of personal honor and "straightness" and to prove to each other that they were not gay after all. I don't see how any REAL man could be so vicious and callous, but it obviously does happen and every trans girl knows it, and knows the danger of deception and sudden discovery.

Don't worry, dear, I tell anyone who seems confused. So do all the other working girls I know. We actually make more money when we don't "pass", because if you pass, you are just another woman, while if you do not, but you are still sexy, then you are different and exotic. It is obvious... since pronouns are mostly only important to the person you are referring to, refer to someone according to their presentation. Please don't refer to another human being as an "it". We are not things, we are people. And they did not murder a boy, they murdered a transsexual woman. Ask a shrink if the distinction escapes you. Yes, she was male. No, she was not presenting as a man.

Some people who have never been around M-F transsexuals would have a hard time "clocking" her as we say, especially in a venue where one does not expect to encounter a TS, and particularly with a TS who is young, pretty, and reasonably passable. I read her immediately, but only because I know what I am looking for. She would have been quite beautiful with a bit of work on her chin and forehead. The adam's apple is not necessarily very prominent, particularly in a young TS who starts on hormones while still in her teens. Artfully applied makeup diminishes it, too. Her penis might not have been that noticeable and she might have been very skillful at keeping attention away from that area, and good at tucking, and might have had a very small one. I can see how three young and ignorant men could have not known. A more likely scenario is that they all knew but didn't care, as long as their friends didn't know. Then when the cat was out of the bag, when suddenly the all realized that each one of them knew that the other two had sampled Gwen's body, they felt compelled to do something, to prove to one another and to themselves how "straight" they were. Sort of like how some men insist on referring to TS or TG or CD or whatever as "it" or as "he/she" which is equally insulting, or simply as "he". (in the case of M-F, that is.)

If someone is legally male due to the presence of a penis but is dressed and manicured and coiffed and made up as a woman, obviously they prefer to be referred to and addressed as such. It doesn't hurt you one bit to use the appropriate pronouns and it shows that you are respectful and considerate of others, even those who do not meet your approval or fit in with your crowd. It doesn't make you Gay. It doesn't make you a freak. It makes you a decent human being, though. It never ceases to amaze me how a young man can be kind to a dog but cruel to a fellow human being out of transphobia or misplaced homophobia or a desire to be accepted by peers as uncompromisingly straight. And for the record, most of my tricks are straight or bi, anyway. A gay man wants a man who looks like a man. That is the whole point of homosexuality.
