    id kill myself

NEW YORK (CNN/Money) - Remember when gas spiked to $3-plus a gallon after Hurricane Katrina? By this time next week, that could seem like the good old days.

Weather and energy experts say that as bad as Hurricane Katrina hit the nation's supply of gasoline, Hurricane Rita could be worse.

Katrina damage was focused on offshore oil platforms and ports. Now the greater risk is to oil-refinery capacity, especially if Rita slams into Houston, Galveston and Port Arthur, Texas.

"We could be looking at gasoline lines and $4 gas, maybe even $5 gas, if this thing does the worst it could do," said energy analyst Peter Beutel of Cameron Hanover. "This storm is in the wrong place. And it's absolutely at the wrong time," said Beutel.

Michael Schlacter, chief meteorologist at Weather 2000, said Rita now appears most likely to hit between Port Arthur and Corpus Christi, Texas, sometime between Friday afternoon and Saturday morning.

Just about all of Texas's refinery capacity lies in that at-risk zone. (For a look at CNN.com's coverage of Hurricane Rita, click here.)

"There is no lucky 7-10 split scenario to use a bowling analogy," he said. "If you're [a refiner] within 200 miles, you're going to feel the effect."

however, first off, good luck to all the people in its path

I am screwed if gas goes up that much. I will have to buy a new car that gets 55 or something miles to the gallon.

This is rediculous. Looks like I'll have to set up the Mountain Bike for street use.

Its obvious what is going to happen....we bitch about gas at 3.00 a gal and it will go to like 4.75 then back to 3.00 and they will just say "well it did go down 1.75". My stepdad owns oil wells across WV and its more for profit then because of "supply and demand" Its about greed. I understand there are problems but if they wanted to there is ways to lower to price and them still have the same profit margin. I'm not just some dick sayin it, well i am, but when my stepdad tells me this shit and he's in the whole business its easy to belive. I don't know what the people are going to do that can barley make it by on their incomes when gas was like 1.80 a gal. I think these prices are going to affect our middle class---upper class gap more and its going to be all around bad thing for our future.......sorry was in class talking about this so its pretty fresh in my mind

Im in the same boat. I just bought a 250 v8. Its about 67$ to fill right now at 2.84 a gallon. We should just trade them back in and buy really expensive mountain bikes. Do you know how ripped we'd get. Fvck the bullshit!

In California we cannot import gas from other refineries, we can only use a special mixture of ethonal and gas. if our prices go up because of refinery issues in texas then something is just not right. does this smell like the energy crisis that enron started and was exposed to?
