I got banned from driving today and fined £500.
At least the ban is only for 3 weeks.
What a nightmare though, having to rely on my gf for lifts everywhere!
Having said that she's being fantastic about it - she's taking me to the gym tomorrow.

How do you get banned? Is that like having your license revoked?
Not sure of how it works over there.........

It's crazy how it works though:
- If you exceed the limit by 30mph or more (in my case 104mph in a 70mph zone) it's an automatic ban of 7 - 28 days and a fine but no points on your license.
- Any other speeding offences (i.e. over the limit but not by as much as 30mph) and you get points (usually 3) and a fine.
- If you accumulate 12 or more points they call it "totting" and you get banned for 6 months!
In my case I have 11 points on my license already so by getting caught at 104mph I got banned from driving for 21 days (if I get caught driving during that period I go to jail) but had I been caught doing 94mph I would have got 3 points and a fine taking me over 12 points by totting and been subsequently banned for 6 months!
I couldn't quite get my head round it as I sat in the back of the cop car so I said to them "So, I'm better off with you guys having caught me at 104 than I would have been if you caught me at 90?"
"In this case, yes" they admitted.
Crazy isn't it?
I explained this to some guys I work with and they all told me that I was talking shit and I started to think it was too good to be true so I checked with my solicitor and he confirmed it and today in court proved it!
Gotta love the legal system!Last edited by NotSmall; 11-23-2005 at 11:54 AM.
