Well its a bit different when your married. When you get married your wife doesnt want you to get all fat so she will even drive my ass to the gym. So I would say both.

For me it was a compromise, my wife didn't really like me spending hours at the gym, so we agreed and I built a rather nice little home gym. Now I can lift whenever I want and actually work out more/longer because of the convinience. Would be nice to have a spotter at times though {sigh}

Buy a Smith, or a power cage. Then, at least you can bench and squat in relative safety, without a spotter. They are pretty reasonable at Academy or Sports Authority. Check walmart, too.
