I used to have two of them, be careful not to let it's claws get too long
there pretty cool i had two when i was a kid along with some boas and pythons, anyway you should put some branches in there for him to climb on man tey love it
How much space should I give it?
I just put it in a 10 Gallon aquarium for this week. I'm building it a ... 4'x4'x4' area for now... any suggestions?
What age should I start to cut it's claws?
put a branch and a leaf to recreate his original environment
I will. I'm building a mini habitat for him/her.
It is going to be 4' x 4' x 4' for now, and will expand as he grows. I will have a mini bath tub on the bottom area for it, and of course food, etc
How about names.. any ideas guys?
I don't know if it's a male or female yet, too young to tell.
4x4x4 should be big enough they just loung all day anyways but recreate his envoroment with bark chips tree limbs a big ass water dish and keep it hot and humid in the cage spray the walls and the floor of the cage a few times a day with a water bottle, and keep it hottttt like 80+ degrees and he will love you through some rocks in there as well and maybe a den for him to hide in, and i never trimed the nails on mine i think they look narly with big ass claws. pluse you want him to be able to climb so i would leave the claws alone he wont try to scratch you, so no worries

I've never played Rock, Paper, Scissors on a forum... hmm.
I wud luv an igUaNA!
I also wouod love exotic fish.
ANd also chamelons (sp) are nice to look at.
Make sure it's environment is as stimulative as possible. Give it a little tree branch here, and places where he can have fun without dying of boredom.
Dress him up in some sunglasses. (I hear you need lighting for iguanas?>) KNow anything about that?
thats tight bro. iguanas get big though, im sure youl have fun with that. as for the lighting, i know that most reptiles require a special type of lamp that emits uvb rays, which simulates natural sunlight. i didn't know this, and one of my pet tokay geckos died cause of my ignorance...:tear: that sucked. i feel that it is my responsibility to keep my pets happy and healthy... but i suppose whining will not accomplish anything. at least my other tokay is still alive
Tokay Geckos are pretty sick... I heard you can't hold them... Iguanas you can hold, walk, carry around, let them walk around the house, etc etc.
Did you name it??? Cause if you haven't named it yet I have an idea...

Iguanas are pretty cool, im thinking of getting some kind of reptile.
I've owned two.
first off, you wanna give it as much space as possible. Secondly actually im not gonna start numbering ...cause theres ALOT
get the bark outta there as it will decrease the humidity in the enclosure that they REQUIRE...dehydration is a really big issue for these lizards and judging by the skin tenting like that or that wrinkle this little guy is dehydrated the skin should be fairly tight
you should look up on google an "green iguana care sheet" and get some pointers from that.
you should have a vitamin mineral supplement especially during the growing years for this lizard and make sure the ratio is 2:1 calcium phosphorus...the reason for this is that during the growth years diets for these guys are usually lacking and can cause the bones to become very brittle...and they form scar tissue/swelling around the bones mouth and tail so they dont break themselves...however this can cause paralysis and mishapen bones and they cant eat properly and will die.
really
thats important
you should be feeding him things like collard greens, dandelion greens, escarole, turnip greens, lentils of some sort, and a staple of mixed vegatalbes you can get frozen like carrots and peas and broccoli and beans.
basically the greens are the most important ...
be sure to mist him..and throw his ass into the shower for 30 minutes at least once a week to catch him up on hydration
dont overdoo the vitamin mineral supps tho......once eod or just a pinch on it....
most importantly be sure have a light source that has UVB 10 in it or preferrablly a mercury vapour bulb that is full spectrum...they need a specific band in the sun to process vitamin d3 or they can get the noted condition above metabolic bone disease...
also, make sure to have heat gradients where he can sit and heat up ....and or go to a cooler part of the enclosure to cool off...they need that to regulate their own temp...its very important.
check the care sheet for temp specs.
its not easy looking after these properly..i learnt the hard way...but the second ig i got lived a long time and was WICKED .all orange and bright green...so tame I could open him mouth and was close to 6 feet long...fukin SICK
please lemme know if you have any other questions
Dally...
Thanks a ton for the input - I'll use all of it.
I'll keep you posted - I'm sure I might have a question here or there... if I do I'll shoot you a PM...
Thanks again.

and oh and btw...swap that bark shit out for some astroturf...there has to be somewhere their nails can 'dig into' if not the nails will bend in time and lay flat and climbing will be not possible...and astroturf is easy to take out and rinse off when he bakes a huge shit on it...
and the shit should always be a white/orange blob, a brown log and some clear shit...

I'm going to go go Lowe's or Home Depot soon to buy materials to build him a big habitat to live in. I'll see if I can get a square of astro turf to lay down as his flooring.
tokays are instinctually VERY agressive, but i've owned 3, and managed to tame all of them down. the key is to be very gentle, and to not touch the lizard until hes used to you. what id do is chill in my bathroom with the door closed so they cant get away, and let them chill on the palm of my hand. another thing i did was when the tokay would open hs mouth to bite me, id use a pair of tweasors, and put a cricket in its mouth.Quote:

I put my iguana in my kitchen sink today and bathed it - let it chill out in warm water (about an inch) for about 20 minutes or so, it seemed to enjoy it. I am going to continue doing this every week or so as Dally suggested.
I've tried to feed it by hand with no luck, but I will continue to try and see where things go.
I also try to hold it at least once every day so that it continues to get used to me. I've only owned it for a week, so we'll see.
Heading to Lowe's I think tonight... I'll post some pics of the set up once it's completed.
i like the name joker....
don't ask why...maybe too many batman movies....
Joker might be a possibility...
any other ideas?
jager for a name :D
grow some smoke in there :D
I would if I did smoke, I hate weed.
Makes me lazy, fat, and unmotivated.
Not good for training.
heh i was joking. name him arnold
Hmm...
Arnoldo means "Strong one" in German... eh. I don't know.
arnold... thats a good name for a big lizard like that
Yes it is... so far I'm leaning towards Arnold... let's hear some more ideas?
jolly green giant maybe?
He'd look better roasted with a side of potatoes and butter.Quote:
