Anyone heard of these two bands before?

Hello guys

Was wondering whether you have heard of these two bands...not heavy metal ones but simple alternative bands...Wilco and the Doves.

I was listening to Wilco's latest "Yankee Hotel Foxtrot"...quite cool ...have to admit that they are slightly commercialised rather than alternative...

I love the doves latest album "The last broadcast".. especially the song "Words"... the guitar rocks!!!!!

Ok... I am not sure but the two albums were just released over here in Asia- Singapore...

Any one has heard of them and any comments?

Of course I've heard of Wilco. Great band. I have the double cd by them, can't remember the name of it though. They're awesome

I'm pretty sure most people have heard of Wilco. They're not my style but I can definitely see why they have a cult following.

i loved wilcos first cd. i hated the billy bragg stuff. if you like them you might try uncle tupelo and son volt. In case you dont know the main song writers (and other members) of uncle tupelo split up (over creative differences about the direction of the music) to form wilco and son volt.

Most people have probably heard of son volt huh?? Drown was a pretty popular song. I agree, that Billy Bragg cd was kinda crap, a little too slow for me. Uncle Tupelo's a decent band too, they're just chillin music. Son Volt plays in Baton Rouge from time to time - great live show.

Where? Last time I went to BR the CHimes expanded into the theatre. THat used to be the best place to catch up and coming bands (as well as 80s retro..man, the chicks). I remember seeing Hootie, Dave Matthews, Blues Traveler, as well as a bunch I cant remember all before they hit big. those were the days.

THe Varsity is what that threatre's called. It still gets a bunch of awesome bands. Son Volt played there about a year ago.

Son Volt ain't playin' nowhere no more, they broke up last year. Jay Farrar is now doing a solo gig. His solo album "Sebastopol" is excellent.

I had the pleasure of mixing a Jay Farrar solo show here a couple of months ago. Well, it was almost solo, he had Mark Spencer (of the Blood Oranges) sitting in on guitar.

if the varsity is still there, then do they still have the babe-fest called 80's retro? when they first started, all the men would be like...(in a gruffy voice) man thats gay, listening to crappy old 80's dance music. a couple of frienfs draggen me there, and after seeing the 10 to 1 girl to guy ratio, i was hooked!

btw, pick up the change from wilco is great to play live acoustic
