    Chest Popping??

the other day attempting a new one rep max on flat bench, Something in the middle of my chest popped. Sounded like popping your fingers, but a deeper hollow sound. for the past couple of days it still pops when I've been lying down and get up. Any ideas? I don't think its anything major because it doesn't really hurt only discomfort is the normal burn after chest workout.

    thanks,
    wcg

I get the same thing. I believe its your sternom.
I've had it for a couple of years.
Sometimes it gets bad enough on me where it hurts but thats only the times when it pops so loud that people in the next room can hear.

I had it once when I was martial arts training and a guy landed on me -popped and hurt like blazes - now it can pop still if I get out of shape. Thinking to take some accupunture or something for it.

you most likely have a little cartilage damage....the sternum is connected to ribs 1 through 7 by costal cartilage...the popping you hear is from the cartilage...what do you need to do about it....nothing except let it heal...which means no heavy weight on your chest and avoiding exercises that expand your chest like flyes....
i know, no heavy barbell benches or flyes is not what a bodybuilder wants to hear, but its the answer....or you could just ignore the pain and keep lifting...your choice..
