ride the lightning = best metallica cd ever.
My fav it is led zeppelin - bron-y-aur
not to be confused with bron-y-aur stomp.

Here's one no one else will agree with -- my favorite guitar solo this week is George Harrison's break in "Dig A Pony" off The Beatles "Let It Be" LP. I've even taken the trouble to learn to play it.

Didn't say I think it's the "best" guitar solo, or even Harrison's best, just my favorite right now.

Anything by Randy Roads (old Ozzy guitar player) great technically and a lot of heart in it.

As for pure technical aspect Joe Satriani, Steve V, Marty Freedman, there are so many great guitar solos and so many great guitar players with such different styles, it would be very hard to pick just one...

Favorite solos? How could you narrow it down?

Hendrix, Page, Satriani, Vaughn, Clapton, Vai (maybe not, but he's damn fast), Van Halen, Kirk Hammet, Slash, Jonhson, Beck, Rhodes... They are all gods. Did I get leave anyone out? Yeah I know, but other than me though...

Yngwie J. Malmsteen's Rising Force=ABSOLUTE CRAP!!!!!!!! Yeah, old Yngwie can strum a guitar, and was actually good in his early days.....but have you heard anything that he has done in the last couple of years. It's like listening to an 8 year old kid play a guitar with an electric mixer. He just plays random notes at warp speed for about 3 hours. "The Wizard" is the worst song that has ever been written. If you've never heard it, download it and listen....it is well worth the hours of laughter.

I always thought the opener to 'Trapped Under Ice' was one of Metallicas best...
Slayer have great solos as well... too many to mention...
Karl Logan from Manowar is excellent, thought not as tight as many others, he is fast as hell...
