are you gonna split on bad terms.. if its a mutual thing and things just didnt work out maybe still be friends.. both can still see the dog..

Cut the dog in half and both take a piece

cut the dog in half and each take a piece
Who paid for the dog? Thats where the answer lies...assuming you both really want the dog.

If you know that the dog is going to be happier with her and get more personal time in with her, then just give it to her. Dogs don't like to be at home alone all day, it's obvious that both of you care about the dog and you just want it to be happy and not necessarily worry about selfishness, which is good. I think you know in your heart what is best for the dog, it seems obvious by your post that she has more time to spend with it and can give it a lot more attention.
Ultimately, it's up to you but don't be selfish, if you don't have time for it, then why punish the dog?

both of you stand on opposite sides of a room,
call dog,
problem solved.
"Sorry hun, I guess you and the dog just don't share the same feelings.. now please leave"
But seriously, you never mentioned if you 2 even lived together.
I'm assuming no, and even if you DID, I still wouldn't go crazy about it.
If shes distraught about it, buy her a hamster and tell her to move on.

Jesus said, "I will cut the dog in half and give you each a portion."
Woman A said, "Yes, it's a good idea Jesus."
Woman B said, "Oh, no! Please give the dog to Woman A. I don't want to see my dog get hurt in any way."
Jesus said, "Woman B, you are the true owner of the dog. Only the true owner would NOT want the dog to get hurt."
I think there was a baby in there and Jesus wasn't involved, but I'm not very religious, plus I can't remember all those Bible stories verbatim.
Either keep the dog or sell her to your ex-gf.
