Fellow Canadians, Lets Force Lower Gas Prices!!!

    Maggie

Folks we as Canadians like to complain but never take action.....So here is something we all can do as consumers, without a lot of effort in an attempt to stop the price gouging.......

"Do what you always have done and get what you always have got"...

(not great grammar but the lesson is more important)

    Regards,

    Rodd

    ------ Original Message -----

From a concerned Gas User Passing it on...don't sound like a bad idea to
    me!!!

I hear we are going to hit close to $1.00 a litre by the summer. Want
gasoline prices to come down? We need to take some intelligent, united
action. Phillip Hollsworth, offered this good idea:This makes MUCH MORE
SENSE than the "don't buy gas on a certain day" campaign that was going
around last April or May!. The oil companies just laughed at that because
they knew we wouldn't continue to "hurt" ourselves by refusing to buy gas.

It was more of an inconvenience to us than it was a problem for them.BUT,
whoever thought of this idea, has come up with a plan that can really
    work.

Please read it and join with us!

By now you're probably thinking gasoline priced at about 69.9 cents a
litre is super cheap. Me too! It is currently 76.9 for regular unleaded in
my town. (Now over 80 cents a litre .. td) Now that the oil companies and
the OPEC nations have conditioned us to think that the cost of a Litre of
gas is CHEAP at 69.9, we need to take aggressive action to teach them that
BUYERS control the marketplace....not sellers. With the price of gasoline
going up more each day, we consumers need to take action. The only way we
are going to see the price of gas come down is if we hit someone in the
pocketbook by not purchasing THEIR gas! And we can do that WITHOUT hurting
ourselves. How? . Since we all rely on our cars, we can't just stop buying
gas. But we CAN have an impact on gas prices if we all act together to
    force a price war.

    Here's the idea:
For the rest of this year, DON"T purchase ANY gasoline from the two
biggest companies (which now are PETRO CANADA & SHELL). If they are not
selling any gas, they will be inclined to reduce their prices. If they
reduce their prices, the other companies will have to follow suit. But to
have an impact, we need to reach literally millions of Shell and Petro
    Canada gas buyers.

It's really simple to do!! Now, don't wimp out on me at this point...keep
reading and I'll explain how simple it is to reach millions of people!!

I am sending this note to about thirty people. If each of you sends it to
at least ten more (30 x 10 = 300)... and those 300 send it to at least ten
more (300 x 10 = 3,000). and so on, by the time the message reaches the
sixth generation of people, we will have reached over THREE MILLION
consumers! If those three million get excited and pass this on to ten
friends each, then 30 million people will have been contacted! If it goes
one level further, you guessed it..... THREE HUNDRED MILLION PEOPLE!!!.

Again, all you have to do is send this to 10 people. That's all.

How long would all that take? If each of us sends this email out to ten
more people within one day of receipt, all 300 MILLION people could
conceivably be contacted within the next 8 days!!!

I'll bet you didn't think you and I had that much potential, did you?

Acting together we can make a difference. If this makes sense to you,
    please pass this message on.

PLEASE HOLD OUT UNTIL THEY LOWER THEIR PRICES AND KEEP THEM DOWN.

    THIS CAN REALLY WORK.

YOU KNOW THEY LOVE HOLIDAYS AND SUMMER TRAVELERS.

Once over the hill, you pick up speed.

I know I'm a minority in this subject but I could care less how much gas costs. If the price is too steep don't drive. Personally I think the price of not having independent transportation is way steeper than a few hundred bucks a month. Many people have vehicle leases of $400-600 a month and then add another $150-200 to insure the vehicle and suddenly the cost of fuel is becoming a smaller and smaller percentage of your overall transportation cost. Does anyone spend > $700 a month on gasoline(excluding professional drivers)?

I spent around $500 on gas during December of 2002 and that was with trying to control how much I was driving. I put on around 9,000km's during that time period. Gas prices piss me off to no end.

Assuming everybody stopped buying from the two major oil companies, how would it not make a dent? I'm not saying you're wrong, I'm actually curious to see the statistics and research that you used to make that decision.

So why won't it make a dent?

I filled up at Sunoco tonight. I don't usually fill up at Shell and PetroCan anyways, I'm an Esso guy, but I thought I'd take it a step further.

I am also in the camp that thinks it won't make a dent, more like a miniscule temporary blip. Commercial and industrial use is so much greater than personal use. So what if you walk to work and turn off the heat in your house, do you think workplaces anywhere are going to follow suit? And I doubt that producers will stop producing or planes will stop flying or trucks will stop trucking.

But the real reason it won't make any difference is that OPEC is an oil pool and what isn't sold just gets stored until it's sold. It's an unsustainable lowering of demand. Remember that when gas is cheap enough OPEC restricts supply to raise the price. They are in the power position, not the consumer. Trying to choke some profit out of OPEC is like saying "I didn't pay for my copy of Windows XP, hahah I bet Gates is really hurting!"
