I have both, and from my experience, Internet Explorer is MUCH faster then Netscape. Netscape takes too long to load, and sometimes, it won't load a page until THE WHOLE thing is loaded into memory first, and then it just THROWS it all on your screen at once (at least it does for me).
But like I said, for me, I find IE to be faster. I have version 5.5 right now.

when I use netscape the AR boards are all screwed up on my laptop. where the avatars and bios show up on ie is where I get the messages. and in the messages section is nothing. its a pain to read each post in a 2 inch width square.

Is there a real reason i should be worrying about Microsoft going through my shit or is it just a propaganda to scare people?

If you like Netscape, then use Mozilla.
Netscape is Mozilla + a ton of crap added.
I personally use Opera, great browser AND the fastest there is.

At work I use IE(windows), and at home I use Mozilla(Linux)! Mozilla is ten times faster but thats only because I use it on a linux box!

Does Opera still lack support for Java and Javascript? If so, that would limit its usefulness for some sites, including some online shopping carts.

Opera is 100% compliant to the current HTML standards (as is Mozilla), but some sites look a little messed up because they are setup with non standard, IE exclusive junk.
The BEST thing in Opera is the built in popup killer and mouse click-drag navigation (eg: you right click and hold it and jerk the mouse left and it's the equivalent to hitting the GO BACK button).
