--->>405<<--- Multi-Cultural Thread :)
so with all this talk about nationalities it popped in my head on the way home from work to start a thread discussing some of the interesting things about where we all live. an example of what i mean would be working philosophy: where i live we get paid by the hour and our work week is typically structured monday thru friday from 7-8am - 5-6pm... we usually go to lunch from noon to 1300.. our lives here in the us tend to be centered around work. everything revolves around it. i wish it were the other way around but unfortunately its not.
we get drug tested at work (which i think is BS even though i dont do drugs, but i dont think they should be able to dictate what i do when im not at work). i can wear whatever i want and it is usually shorts and t shirts with flip flops..
i am curious to what yall do for work? i have heard some of the european countries go to work late and take long lunches (some of which involve alcohol ) and then maybe work a little late. ??
hopefully we can learn some interesting stuff about each other (and maybe yall already know a lot of this but i dont!)

I'm like you --->>405<<---, flexible working conditions which includes time and this is a highly underrated "benefit" imo. We do get tested....usually a urine test; however, this year we had to give a hair sample. That kinda pissed me off a little more than usual. If a company wants to drug test, it should be to ascertain that you aren't under the influence while at work. Not whether or not you participated in an activity on your own time. I work for our local public utility as a treatment plant manager. We try to take care of each other as we're a team of < 50 people supplying power, water and wastewater services to multiple counties. So our culture of flexibility is great but we have to be so careful...nowadays, we're nothing but a big target for people looking for a lawsuit.

I am a mutt. Not a fan of the "victim" attitude. Believe a pleasant attitude and smile can warm even the coldest heart. I am spiritual but not into religions traditional stuff that was made by men. any person that wants to kill me because I am different then them is not acceptable. I have a gun and I will use it if you make me. I am a non violent person. I am not lucky and would rather be lucky then good every day of the week.

I'm all messed up.
My work week starts on Saturday at 8pm. I typicall work 8pm - 8am, 4 days one week and 3 days the next week giving me 40hrs + 4hrs OT.
I get paid a base salary but also get paid overtime.
I work anywhere from minimum 4hrs OT each 2 week paycheck up to 40+ OT a week.
I love/hate my work schedule. In one aspect it gives me a lot of flexibility to get things done and have a lot of time off but on the other hand I have not doubt it has shortened my life due to lack of sleep. I will go 24 hrs of no sleep at least 1x a week. 48 hrs of no sleep at least 1x as month or more and 72 hrs of no sleep at least 1x every 3 months.
The bonus is an extra 23% pay, no management or typical drama that goes on during the days, I can take lunch or go work out (dont do it enough) whenever I want, any time during the night as long as it's not busy and 90% of the time it's not. Can take cat naps when it's appropriate. Flexible work week so I can switch with a co worker for a shift or two and not have to use any vacation time.
All my co workers are good people and great to work with with 1 exception. I think everyone has one. He is a paranoid schizophrenic (I believe clinically) who thinks everyone is out to get him or his words, throw him under the bus and he feels his job is to come in and try to find anything someone might have missed, how long it took to do something or just make up stories about the other co workers about no doing anything and reporting it all to management who doesn't give a rip but wont do anything about him because if you look at him wrong he runs to HR.
Other than the above life for the most part is good and getting better. I have dont a little bit of everything starting from actual ditch digging, construction, washing dishes, food services, managing fast food restaurant, working big factories, tech support for trading desk (stock market), building a Network for another trading desk after being on the job for 2 days and the lead deciding to quit and go to Thailand (smart guy) and finally doing the one job I said I never wanted to do, never had any interest in doing when all my co workers at my previous job (large data-center) wanted to do; network design, monitoring, CCNA/Routers.
I would have loved to do like some of you guys out on a drill rig. I almost got the chance a few years ago because of an older guy I got to know in Thailand who worked on one of the off shore rigs.
I would also like to do some mining work or at least get to spend some extended time underground exploring.

Every once in awhile a little political tension but try to keep it light. Every once in a while they like to kid with me about my stilettos. I think they like my perfume too. Hahahahaha.

I have all you all beat as far as hrs go. I work a 5 day week and in those 5 days I work 60-70 hrs. Most days, since I live 45- hr from work I get on avg 6 hrs sleep that is if I can sleep. I do slave hrs and no overtime cause I am not paid hourly, this is how they get away with not paying us overtime. And not a one of you( Americans) could survive without me and my fellow drivers, cause if you eat it, wear it, use it, than before you got it I delivered it. I have to follow so many rules you head would spin trying to keep up with them all. If I don't do my job safely it means your mom, dad, siblings or dons and daughters won't make it home safely. Oh and I'm living in the NE US, so that makes my job 200% more dangerous because there are more idiots per sq mile here than anywhere in the world. But hey, I'm happy cause married to the most beautiful, Intelligent, sexiest Filipino anywhere. Oh and I'm saved.
