International travel, especially the kind that sends Americans over there to help with the outbreak then sends them back here. Dallas havign a huge international airport I am not surprised.

    Quarantine those fvcks!

They should not be able to fly out of that country without being swabbed/tested for Ebola

    And I'm not surprised either

Well you guys can keep it! Australia's tucked away in our own little epidemic free island!

It's a bit ridiculous that they can let this happen when the average joe realises how it could have been prevented.

I dont see the big deal. Only 10000 people have died from ebola in world history. So very small in terms of viruses. Another hype blown out of proportion. You have a greater chance of going to Africa and getting hiv than anything else.

Ebola is more contagious than AIDS, that is why it is a big deal. There is no way to know how many people have died from Ebola accurately given it mainly affects the very poor and uneducated continent of Africa. That, and we haven't been recording the numbers for very long in our history.

The prior outbreaks were contained fairly easily because we acted quickly and isolated the problem. We did not know about this outbreak until it had infected many people so this one is going to be worse than most in the past due to our delayed response.

The CDC is currently predicting as many as 1+ million outbreaks in the next year. Whether this happens or not remains to be seen, but should be monitored by everyone for the time being.

The CDC has instructed all hospitals to immediately isolate anyone who has traveled lately and has a fever. I would hate to get stuck in that if I didn't have Ebola.

Are you volunteering to go help the infected where the epidemic is then? Over 90% of people die from ebola. I have a feeling it's not anywhere close to that for measles.

The thing is they kept saying we had nothing to worry about here in the US. There is no way it would get here. Here it is.... How many cases now, only 2 so far? How many in the infected areas, 3400 so far?

I hope you are right but I still have the feeling this is far from being over.

Well I have to admit the media has their own reasons for blowing up the news with Ebola, but that is not to say it isn't a bad thing. Things like Ebola can become much worse if people are uninformed. At least we all know not to go hanging out in Africa in some parts without being aware of the risks. I was just there last month, I am glad I didn't catch it.

Well I am sure he could have come in contact with it and not known it. I haven't heard anything about this case but I would like to think it would be easily thrown out or won by the defendant if he has a decent lawyer.

How can you defend this comparison of HIV to Ebola?

Imagine you are working out at the gym and the person with HIV leaves some sweat on the equipment. You do your set. No issue. The sweat from Ebola is deadly.

If you come down with Ebola there is only a 10% chance of living in the best of situations with prompt medical diagnosis and care. There is NO CURE. NO antibodies. No cocktail to keep you alive. Death is sudden with internal bleeding.

    • Ebola virus disease (EVD), formerly known as Ebola haemorrhagic fever, is a severe, often fatal illness in humans.
    • The virus is transmitted to people from wild animals and spreads in the human population through human-to-human transmission.

I am still wondering how people are surprised by this? Someone travelled to a country with a disease and was not properly screened or lied when they re-entered. And the nurse who is infected most likely broke some type of protocol and got it that way.
