Since I'm on a Movie Kick...Your Top *FIVE* Films

I've always thought you could tell a good deal about people by their favorites in film and literature, and, as I'm on a movie kick tonight I'd like to start up a thread with everyone's top FIVE movie picks. Somehow, people always manage to pop a tie or two in or even honorable mentions to expand the list to upwards of eight, but we're disciplined iron warriors...let's exercise (no pun intended) some of that discipline and cap it at FIVE (ranked or unranked...your choice...though indicate if it's in no particular order or not, por favor). So, you're forced to exclude some of your faves and narrow it down to a list of five films that absolutely engage you, changed you and/or simply provide everything that you believe a film should be.

I'll start it off, though I'm ashamed to say that my list is fairly narrow in that my top five are dominated by films in the last ten years. A few that I'm leaving off the list go back much further...but when forced to choose an absolute top five, it simply pans out that way. So, without further delay, my top five (in no particular order) -

    1. Vanilla Sky
    2. Fight Club
    3. Say Anything
    4. Chasing Amy
    5. American Beauty

your inclusion of Rocky V disturbs me greatly....it is the irremovable blemish on an otherwise brilliant collection. I often pretend it did not happen, as it helps me sleep at night, but at times like this, when I am forced to confront its existence, I become very saddened.

Well, I don't think anyone can ever accuse you of not being diverse in your life...i can honestly state that I didn't ever think I would see XXX and Coyote Ugly on the same list for *anything*, let alone a top five list.

BG, I like the way you think. I agree with you whole heartedly that you can tell a great deal about someone based on their fav books, movie and such. So in no particular order.....

    1. Tombstone (yes that one, not the old one)
    2. Jaws (12 when I saw that, made my mom go out and get tickets again cause I was not leaving my seat)
    3. Heat of the Night (Mr. Tibbs - smart, tough and class)
    4. Blazing Saddles (Laughed so hard I swear a lung came up)
    5. Big Jake (John F***ing Wayne! But this one is very special to me. If I was to put them in order this would be number one.)

Wished you'd have said top five.

Hell yeah! I actually had "History of the world Part 1" written and had the moral dilema of a lifetime when I changed it to "Animal House"

Anything by Mel Brooks will have me pissing my pants. Lets not forget "To be or not to be" (Mel Brooks as Hitler... too funny!) Dracula Dead and loving it (come on! Mel brooks AND Leslie Nielson together? woah!) Blazing Saddles (who else can take a western and make it so funny?)

Hee hee! I guess I do like my movies

My first choice is an easy one, Rounders...followed closely after by My Big Fat Greek Wedding which truly struck a cord in my heart concerning my family and relationships I have encountered. In third place is Minority Report because the conceptual idea of this movie is absolutely mindblowing. In fourth place is Vanilla Sky, because after watching this movie more then five times, I still notice something new each time I watch it. It truly takes a good movie to posess that quality. And in fifth place is a rather old movie, Nothing But Trouble, which features Chevy Chase, Dan Akroyd, John Candy and Demi Moore, in a movie which takes me back to '91. Ahh, memories....

It's so hard to chose and put in a category, but I'll be alittle unconventional:
    My fellow Italians:
    Godfather 1 & 2
    Pope of Grenwich Village (spelling)
    Goodfellas
The Untouchables - Bobby DeNiro made one of the best performances EVER! as Cappone.
    Bronx Tale

Comedy (Movies I watch entirely too many times)
    >Fletch (and to a lesser extent Fletch 2) - Just unbelieveably influential to my life and way of speach
    >Jay and Silent Bob - Kevin Smith movies period...but who doesn't love saying "have you had a$$ eaten by a fat man in an overcoat" Priceless
    >Austin Powers - Nothing funnier than me and my bro's gigglin and adding our own lines to this priceless series.
