I guess it's a generation type call here so I gotta go with Clint Eastwood.

John Wayne was before my day.

Sorry Red but I think its my moral obligation to ban you after that statement. Freedom of speech is one thing but bashing the Duke is totally unacceptable. If isn't isn't against board rules then it should be and I propose it as amendment # 68 to the board rules.

Edit: as amendment #69 I propose a no Elvis bashing. "Well ahh Thank ya Thank ya very much"

Red, I'm a huge fan of Clint Eastwood, no doubt but Bro we're talking about the Duke. There's a line in Big Jake that I know by heart. It's the scene where the bad guy opens the box of money for his grandson's ransome the Duke leans over and just loud enough for him to hear says:
"Anything goes wrong, anything at all, your fault, my fault, nobody's fault I'm gonna blow your head off. No matter what happens, no matter who gets killed I'm gonna blow your head clean off".

Ron, I'm with you on the the banning call however let's give him one more chance. Red, you have to go out and rent a duke movie right away. You've had too much Eastwood. Ha

BTW, where is Elvis now? Last I heard he was working at a gas station in Georgia.

I'm with Red on this one......I really think that Clint had a mean MF'ing stare. I saw the Ole' Alamo movie that "the Duke" made and NAHHHH!!
I worked as an extra for the new Alamo Movie (that has REAL Mexican's instead of white guys in shoe polish) and it was way "Tougher" and bloodier than JW's version of the Texas History flick. Sorry Duke fans but this one's for Eastwood!

John Wayne!!! Clint Eastwood is cool but he doesn't compare to the Duke. I can't believe John Wayne is trailing in this poll. I guess its an age thing...maybe Justin Timberlake would also get some votes from some of you kiddies.

Gene Hackman....fantastic in "Unforgiven", great in the very underrated "Quick and the Dead", played an Earp, and finally, what can really be said against "Bite the Bullet"? I rest my case.

Bump for more John Wayne fans. I don't want to be force to abuse my authority to make the duke win. But he can't go out like this. Come on now Rio Grande? Now that movie was classic. Eastwood's is most know for the low budget spaghetti westerns they made in Italy. Come on now

    My favorite western by far.

Robert Duvall and Tommy Lee Jones were pretty good in Lonesome Dove.

Excellent series, one of my first DVD's

And if we're adding people to the lists, then I opt to put up Paul Newman and Robert Redford in Butch Cassidy and the Sundance kid

Haven't you forgot about Leonardo Di Caprio from the Quick and the Dead! Now there's a cowboy! or how about Jason Priestley(I forgot the name of the film but he played a wimpy dude)! Now theres some real gir...Men for you! Tell me they don't strike fear into you guys!

Seriously there is NO Question! John Wayne was a cowboy! It wasn't just an acting thing when he wasn't on screen he was always riding horses and all that crap.

Ok. I can't sit thought this slander any more. I'm gonna have to start banning each and everyone of you. All 18, I know who you are. For poor judgment if nothing else. I assume most of you guys are really young and haven't seen many John Wayne movies so maybe I should not hold you responsible for your generation loosing out on THE GREATEST COWBOY LEGEND of all time.

Let me put this in prospective for all the younger guys who didn't grow up on John Wayne. Putting Eastwood above The Duke is like me saying Vanilla Ice is the greatest rapper of all time.

Well Ron, I wasn't going to post this, but I feel I have to.

Why am I chosing Eastwood over Wayne?

Well, it's certainly not because of my age... I'm in my mid 30's and have seen more than my share of John Wayne movies... And it's not a dislike of Wayne either, I think he's a great actor that defined a generation in hollywood and did more than his share for his country in WW2.

My problem is that I have a real hard time taking him seriously in tough roles. Maybe it's just me, but I watch him being a cowboy (and god dammit I know he really was a cowboy), or a soldier and I just cannot immerse myself in his role. It doesn't "feel" genuine to me, the toughness just feels like he's acting tough.

On the other hand, whenever I saw Eastwood in his earlier movies (sorry to say he sucks ass lately) he really oozed toughness. I don't need convincing that if he could leap out of the screen he would kick my ass.

Vanilla Ice... man thats below the belt!
