    My Poetry

I started writing a poem a day about a month ago, and I did a 3-day poetry workshop last week with a famous poet. So far I've got 23 poems. The idea is that I'll have around 380 poems this time next year, and so that's a good pool to choose 60 for my first book, and so I send that to a publisher and hope for the best. Here's a taste...

    True Love True Loss

He may not have meant me to take it the way I did

Robin Williams once said that true loss is only possible
if you love something more than you love yourself

Loss is unnatural -- as people, we are not to lose
We were never supposed to lose anything
We are to know no feeling of loss

We love and we do so in abundance
    in surplus, even

And ultimately we are to love ourselves supremely

We are the apple of our own eye
the object of our own affections
the auto-pursuit of our own searing desires

If we are to love ourselves supremely, beyond all measure
beyond reasonable doubt and beyond doubt unreasonable
then how on earth could we possibly love
    anything in excess of this?

For you see, true loss is only possible if you love
something more than you love yourself

If you truly love yourself, then truly you have nothing to lose

The next one is about a caterpillar that loved itself and actually didn't want to become a butterfly.

    De-liberate Me

    They took my freedom
the day I became a butterfly
    My almost innumerable legs
    stolen and replaced with wings

    I liked my legs
    I liked crawling too
    Sometimes I even swung
    from platform to precipice

I had my morning routine -- two, actually
    one for when it rained
and one for when it shone
    I HAD A ROUTINE

    How can one say no
    if one is not asked?
    They call it a "liberation",
    this caterpillar-to-butterfly transformation
Call it what you may -- I don't want it
Never did want it and never asked for it

    You've run your experiment
    now kindly de-liberate me

    Coffins and Gravestones

Danielle and I broke up in the month of February
    in the worst possible way
Two years on, I was drawing
    little coffins and gravestones
and writing her name on them

“If a psychiatrist heard you talking like that,
you’d be sectioned”, a kind voice politely informs
followed by a comfortable silent pause
I reply, “I was sectioned 5 years ago”
he adds, “I bet you were”

I don’t believe there to be a spectrum between hatred and love
I think of things more like a gas with temperature and pressure
-- not entirely independent however independently measurable
(the latter hatred, the former love)
Danielle and I were white hot when there was
a sudden abrupt increase in pressure

Little cunt killed herself and it only took me 3 years
It is my personal opinion that
she deserved to die for ruining me
“If a psychiatrist heard you talking like that,
you’d be sectioned” -- so section me.

Maybe we should close marcus' photography thread because he shared his art then perhaps?

    Thanks.

There is a difference. Photography is a form of art that appeals to a larger demographic.

Poets are a select few that can truely appreciate each others work. (Not me)

Its some heavy shit kai lover writes but its something he likes and would like to share. I am in no way suggesting we all act like hes a snowflake but let the guy do his thing in peace

(Not because im young and nice)

Suicide is a waste of humanity joke.
Somewhere is a little girl with cancer, clinging to life that doesn't understand the concept of death but she knows she wants to live.
Meanwhile some pussy man in his teens or twenties wants to off himself because his puss ran off....

Yeah I am not the guy you want on the hotline, I will talk you into it.
I have had a couple folks I knew kill themselves.
They had one thing in common, they were non hacking vaginas.

To stub an oar on a rock where none should be,
To have it rise with a slounge out of the sea
Is a thing that happened once (too often) to me.

But not too often - though enough. I count as gain
That once I met, on a sea tin-tacked with rain,
That roomsized monster with a matchbox brain.

He displaced more than water. He shoggled me
Centuries back - this decadent townee
Shook on a wrong branch of his family tree.

Swish up the dirt and, when it settles, a spring
Is all the clearer. I saw me, in one fling,
Emerging from the slime of everything.

So who's the monster? The thought made me grow pale
For twenty seconds while, sail after sail,
The tall fin slid away and then the tail.
    Norman MacCaig

Biggest load of shite ive ever read but i did my english paper on it so others must think its good

I've been writing a poem a day for over a month now, plus I read my poetry to an audience at an Open Mic Night two weeks ago, so yeah I'm a poet.

    The Final Solution

    Suicide is the solution to
    a soul beyond repair
    soiled, stained and ruined

    Climbing an infinite ladder
    to an unachievable solace,
    or satisfaction even

    I climb, I climb and I climb
    through sewerage, shame and grime
still no light at the peak of this ladder
    -- only doom

    Pills, capsules, tablets and tonics
    Bullets and guns and nailguns
Knives and pikes and saws and needles
Ropes and belts and wires and cables
    Bridges and penthouse patios

    I have a daughter, she's 4
and I, her mother, am a whore
    I've dug my own hole
    and ruined my own soul

    I leave today
    and I won't leave a note
    no passport and plane tickets
    no trains and no boat

    But what of little Scarlett
    surely she needs her mother
    What will happen from here?

    Well dear, you see,
    this will damage her deeply
and she may even follow in my stride

    but see here my dear,
    I'm possessed of selfishness
so my dear, I don't mind

If you have the self-discipline to diet for a bodybuilding show then you should be writing poetry.

    Soft Lighting

Light isn't inherently hard or soft
It can be bright and it can be dim

    When they flash
    We call them flashing lights

    When they soothe
    We call them soothing lights

    Occasionally there's a dimmer switch
And occasionally there's a strobe light

    Their most basic function
    is to illuminate
    To make seen what
    is otherwise unseen

    Isaac Newton said that anything
    will continue to move at
constant speed in a straight line
unless acted on by a force.
    This doesn't apply to light.
    Just saying.

    I like soft lights

Doesnt matter, but now I know why you have to "Indulge once a month -- a bottle of wine and 20 cigs " after you face a tough crowd.... Should I send DSM over to make you fell better?

    Holding It In

    Sometimes it might be best
    to hold it in
Not because now is a bad time,
but rather because in the future
    you might need to --
    so best to practise now

    That’s the pressure you’re feeling:
    the expanding inner walls
    of a full container.

    According to Émile Clapeyron,
    temperature too will also increase
as the walls strive to expand
    in line with pressure

If the pressure continues to increase,
    there are only two possibilities;
    there must be a valve
    for a controlled release
or else there will be an explosion
    (the former : action,
    the latter : reaction)

Given the choice, it is always
better to act than to react
So in order to do so,
    either prevent the pressure surge
    or develop your release valves.

    Strengthen them but
    most importantly
    keep them lubricated

Anger occurs in a mammalian mind
    in response to violation --
the blatant happening of the unhappenable.
That’s the pressure increase you’re feeling
    oh and the heat too.

You now have the choice to react or to act

    Go on, hit her

This one came from a weird situation in my life. I have an exgirlfriend who thinks that she was in an abusive relationship with me... and now years later she's still saying that she was with a narcissist and that I beat her down, and she even gives advice to other women in abusive relationships.

The thing is though, I thought that she was joking along with me... I didn't think that she was taking offense.

It's years later now and I spoke to her only last year but I haven't told her the truth of what happenend (i.e. that I was just joking) because she has constructed an entire identity for herself around having an abusive boyfriend. I thought best to let her keep that than to destroy all the "personal progress" she's made over the last few years.

Not quite sure how that comes out in this poem though.

There is no way you should take any steroids .

You are nowhere near stable enough for steroids.
And for the love of god, stop with what you call poetry, and I call creepy shit.

Possibly could of caused my nightmares last night.

    What does SO mean?

You know how some couples are really lovie dovie on sites like MySpace, Facebook, etc., leaving each other comments like "I wove you, I wove you too honey bunny".... well we had just been chatting on the phone for a half-hour and then she posted something on my page and I posted "I hate you", then "you're such a horrible person".... I thought she knew I was playing around but she took it seriously, and even her friends were like "How could you let him talk to you like that?". She broke up with me over it and went on a crusade about being with a narcissist who beat her down.
