    Made in China

How much of your personal belongings are made in china ?

I started almost a year ago removing things made in china from my home. The quality sucks and a lot of their materials are from recycling we use to sell back to them.

Sure the price might be higher on something but it's an investment and supporting your own country. Almost everything in my Kitchen was made in America and I can say most of it will out live me because the quality is top notch.

No idea and can’t be fucked to look. I’m not a “stuff” person, so most of the money that I spend is just on food, housing, etc.
Admittedly though, most of my recent gym purchase was built to order stuff from Rogue and Sorinex, made in Ohio and South Carolina respectively.

I used to be a pretty big consumer .. in the last few years I can probably count on one hand all the things I've bought.

    food (Costco USDA beef)
Elite FTS and Rogue weight equipment
    Books (written by US authors)
    Apple computer
    Jeep Cherokee
    Gasp brand clothing

I barely spend any money on consumerism and shop .. my weak point is books, I have thousands and always want to buy more.

but I can see people who like to shop all the time and spend money on just stuff , how easy it is to not pay attention and look at price point only and end up buying tons of made in China goods.

I will admit though.. years ago , when I was fairly wealthy, and also young and dumb. I once spent $70k in one year just on my American Express credit card. I was an absolute consumer for sure.. frickin nuts! thousands of dollar on golf clubs, private club memberships, thousands of dollars on nice firearms,, thousands on ammo cause I used to go to my club gun range all the time, tons of money on prepper gear , fancy ass gaming computers for kids, closet full of 500$ suit jackets (which I have no use for now), 200$ lunches, $500 a night hotel rooms for weekends out (every weekend) with the wife ..
    total frickin waste!!!

I read the book "the Millionaire Next Door" ... that changed my ways. or more precisely showed me the error of my ways.

of course now I'm just a broke ass gym owner and trainer so don't have much of a choice not to be a consumer anyhow.. but really I like the simple life of not being attached to consumerism to make you happy..
and I think its more then just "made in China" ,, yes we should buy Amercian, even buy local if we can. but there are plenty of corrupt corporations here in US that don't deserve our business either.

Not sure, but try to make an effort of buying American as much as possible. We do a lot on Amazon, will start scrutinizing more.

I like to go to the second hand store for the past couple of years. I get great kitchen stuff, all made in USA, all from the early 70's and before. Great Corningware casserole dishes with covers, Faberware items, beautiful thick aluminum or stainless steel pans and pots by Wear-ever and Mirro. Old cake aluminum and Pyrex pans and pie pans. The metal pans are useful in the garage also, to disassemble and clean a carb or other items with small parts in. Great heavy duty kitchen hand implements like whisks, cleavers, spatulas. I forgot how solid and heavy items were made when I was a kid. Even window fans, all steel, even the blades. Beautiful industrial desk lamps with magnifying glass for the work bench.

While talking about second hand stores, here's a neat trick, but it doesnt involve shit made in the USA. Grab one of those used 19-21 inch LED flat screen computer monitors for about 14 bucks. Folks upgrade their setup all the time and donate these older monitors. Just make sure they have a HDMI port on them. Then plug in a Roku or Firestick for a cheap kitchen counter TV, or a TV mounted to the wall in the cabin of your boat, or bathroom, front porch, garage, etc.. For that price, if it eventually gets wet, or drops and breaks, who cares? I grab a few on 50% off days and get Roku sticks on sale for $29 and give them to family as little gifts. I keep one on my work bench for watching youtube videos of different welding tricks.

    Fuck, everything

Or, at least it feels like it

I’d say 95% of the aftermarket parts we use are Chinese crap. It’s such a hit or miss - we get plenty of parts that don’t work right out of the box

But, the price difference is huge. Just did the coils in my Cadillac - a used local set is 120-150. . . Brand new China shit is 80 bucks. New - is about 250-300

I tried my best to find a used set & did for 50 bucks. . . I try to avoid Chinese junk at all costs - but, to a point. . . In many cases we’re stuck using this garbage. Motor mounts and suspension parts that fail within months of installation are my favorites

In today’s Los Angeles Times. One billion dollar deal between California & China stalls. Their auto industry is making the N95 masks that are in shortage in US healthcare. It’s the only mask that will help protect the person wearing the mask. Turns out not only are the masks being sold for higher prices per mask, but they are potentially defective and do not met FDA approval.

Where is our production on this? Chevy, better get that new model Corvette out there cause it’s insane (actually it is).

Literally stuck between a rock and a hard place depending on a potential enemy to provide us something we need to keep people alive. Then the enemy over-charges for it and makes it with defects. We definitely have our shit officially fucked up, this is f’n unreal. In a way, I won’t blame China’s manufacturers on this when they laugh their asses off at our naive stupidity.

Absolutely. Our country could have gotten that done. Trump could have ordered US manufacturers to produce those things. He chose not to. He has the power, but he doesnt use it. Boob.

Or honestly, how about some companies simply take the initiative as well.

Edited: just did some looking, some automobile companies out here are. Not sure how voluntary it was, but they are. Kudos to them, thank you.

Unfortunately my wife and I shop a lot at Walmart, I’m ashamed but they made it so easy to order groceries and everything else. Just pull up and pickup. It’s laziness on our part.

Isn't Amazon a lot easier ? I know the US has been offering grocery there longer than Canada.

    For me I do :

    - Amazon for dried goods / non perishables
    - Local butcher for meat (butcher box service delivered to door on dry ice )
    - Farmers market and garden for produce
    - Online supplement store for any health or vitamins

Market is of course closed now so just buying frozen fruit and vegetables 1 month at a time
