I saw the same clip on tv during a hockey review show they do like once a year, and they were talking about the worst incidents. The guy clipped the goalies throat with his skate. This was like tha incident that prompted the invention of safer skates that wont cut skin.

His throat was slit on another player's ice skate. He was out for only three weeks before coming back.

His name is Clint Marlarchuck (spelling) he used to play fo the Capitals. He credits the trainers with saving his life. The skate cut his artery. They said another few minutes and he would have died. I believe he was out cold by the time they got him on the helicopter.

Throat slit on hockey blades used to happen a lot before neck-guards became mandatory for kid leagues.
A 12 or 13 year old kid had his jugular slit (goalie) many years ago - before neck guard rules - at the local arena. One of my friends (fellow FF-EMT who moonlight as a Hockey Medic) saved the kid. It bled so much he couldn't even reach for a hemostat to clamp the jugular, he just pinched in with his fingers and waited the the paramedics to arrive.
Good thing hockey gear protects you better now.
