Calling all internet gurus, KEYWORD, OPTIMIZATION, SEARCH ENGINE RANKING HELP

I need a little help. Well i am trying to start my own web business, i was thinking about doing a porno site, but im first going to try my hand at a Gift shot first, that's my ladys idea. Anyhoo i have been reading and trying to acquire enough knowledge to do it all myself, but i am feeling a little impatient.

Major areas of help are Search engine optimization. What can i do besides keywords to have the odds of my site being in top 50 listed on a search engine? I don't want to spend any money on search engine listings because i have no idea how successfull it's going to be.

I do not want to order any products untill i can have my site listed and feel comfortable with the results.

Another thing I need a shopping cart, security for credit cards and all that good stuff. Any link and help will be appreciated much.

I would also like to start an affiliate program, but that's way down the road and depends on the success of my site.

Keywords are def the best way to go........it takes a lil work to get it right......but its free..... I can help you with that......I suggest that you go to google and download their toolbar...they have a thing called pagerank which once google updates it gives you a number between 1-10..........based on content,links,relevance,etc..etc...etc...all of that is pretty easy to do.....just takes some time on your part.........but worth it trust me...........turning up in the 1st few spots for a certain keyword is king.......and remember that its free advertising.........if you have some cash to throw around i suggest that you use overture for advertising........Ive tried just about all of them and can tell you now that none of them even come close to converting as overture when it comes to pay per click (ppc)....security is also very important to customers who purchase products online......I highly suggest you do this........you can get a secured certificate for around 200 bucks which is good for a year.......what else.......maybe it will be better for you to become an affiliate yourself......you can use the person who you signed up under's merchant account and ordering system.....once your site is ready to be submitted I can help you with Search Engine submission....never pay for it.........they'll pick you up eventually anyways...........Its a long process but if it makes you money then who cares right

I have not even bought my products yet, i have been doing some internet research to see what's hot and what's not, no sence ordering shit nobody wants, right?

My gf friend just want's to buy shit she thinks is "cute" but im trying to tell her that we have to do a little market research before we just go hog wild and order shit. She's ambitious which is good.

What a great question. I have been researching Search engine optimization for about 3 months now.

Actually, keywords are pointless now for Google searches. Google is the #1 search engine, plus does the searches for Yahoo (thought it probably won't take long since it's recent purchase of overture ) Speaking of overture, click on that link for a "search term suggestion tool". Optimize your pages for the top keywords. When I say optimize, I mean make sure the title of the page, and the content contain the top keywords, but make sure each page focuses on a different search word.

The first directory you should get registered in is dmoz.org Independent directory that Google uses. Very important.

Books to buy: Google Hacks published by O'Reilly, authored by Tara Calishain & Rael Dornfest. The only book about Google at this time. Even google approved. Focuses on some subjects such as developer tools, that you may have no interest in, but it is still interesting.

Use Bruce Clay's website to analyze your website for you. He has a lot of great tools and tips. He suggests some other books as well.

Visit Site Point Forums for a lot of information on search engine optimization, plus they will analyze your website for you. Great community.

Webmasterworld is a great source for SEO questions. Just read some info about it and it had great reviews.

The keywords (meta tags) debate has been going on for a long time. Honestly, only Google knows. Keywords just don't seem to be relevant with Google. It use to be with past search engines, but it doesn't anymore. Without content, to back up the keyword, it won't help. I'm not saying that they are not somehow factored in to the formula, that is possible. But there have been times that I have searched for words, checked the meta-tags and keywords, and they didn't exist. You're URL, title, and content I believe have a much higher impact on SE Ranking. Also, keyword strength is questioned based on how many or few that you have.

I use them on every page we have. And I think they should be used just for safety. But they are not a major factor in search results.

I'm sorry if it looks like I am backtracking. I am not trying to do that. I believe they are nice to have, but I really don't believe much weight is determined by keywords when it comes to search results.

PTBYjason- i guess i would have to concur about the keywords hardly mean shit anymore. All my research thus far has suggested this. One site that i have found very imformative is

From what this site suggests keywords are just a little stepping stone that helps your overall ranking It also says Google searches other search eninges for their top ranking, especially yahoo. One tips was pay 300 dollars a year for yahoo, if you want top ranking on google. I am not prepared to do this yet, i guess i will have to move my plans to launch my site up another 6 months, because i am going to learn as much as possible about how to get top ranking with ver ver very minimal amount of coin.

From what i do understand about google is that they no longer go by keywords. i could be wrong
