What do you think the world will look like in 50 years?

What do you think the world will look like in 50 years?

Everyday that passes I get more and more convinced that its all going to shit.
All moral values is gone in western society, obesity is rising enormously and diseases are spreading like a wildfire.
Nobody gives a fuck about trying to stop HIV and its just everywhere nowdays, every year the ammount of infected doubbles and SARS is probably just one of the first new exotic diseases that will surface.
Infecting someone with HIV should be a capital punishment, Im sure there are sic fucks out there that knows they have it and doesnt care.
I mean its like the human race is a plauge on the earth and now earths immune defence is starting to combat us, even the old bacterias we thought we could easily defeat with antibiotics is now getting resistant to just about everything

It feels like im going nuts because signs of decline is everywhere and nobody gives a shit or maby im just going god damn crasy

Average age with no smoking, no drinking, no AS use, no nothing. Have to live in a bubble your whole life to shield the effects of this crappy society.

Well I think to answer this question you should look back 50 years from today..so 1953.

So I think that the world will look the same for the most part(more "suburbanization" and expanded cities though obviously), but there will be more inventions which will make living easier, that is for certain. I think that 50 years is much, much too short of a time span for exotic diseases to surface, at least not that many at any rate. Diseases come and go; as was seen in polio, in the bubonic plague, etc..

And I do not see very many signs of decline. If anything there is more peace between nations then there was 50 years ago; with the notable exception of terrorists. Sure, many people view China and North Korea as a threat, but it's not like they are invading other countries and trying to spread communism throughout the world. Another step in the right direction is the disarmament of many of the atomic weapons that were so rampant in the 50s. And you can even look back 10 years and look at the atrocities of the 1940s, something that is not seen at all today(with the exception of some African countries such as the Congo..where 3 million people have been slaughtered thus far..).
So to sum up I feel that in 50 years there will be more devices to further and ease living in the world, there will be more urbanization, and there will be some violence, but nothing too widespread.

I did a report on the use of fossil fuel. I forget the percentage but basically it says that the middle east will control much of the worlds economy because it will be the last to run out of fuel which means they will gain more world power. Something like in 20 years at the rate we are going. So will our empire fall then to the middle east? I sure the fuck hope not.

well, one thing we do have to be weary of is extending our army and trying to extend ourselves too far, this was one of many contributing factors to Rome's downfall, we can't expect to impact the world by ourselves (US)

We have too many smart people in the world to rely on fossil fuel, it is a concern though, it just means innovation is coming

Yes that was the energy source I was trying to think of but couldn't come up with. That was the research that was awarded the grant for research so it must be in progress.

If you want to know the cycles of civilasations, there rising and fall then look into "the decline of the west" by Oswald Spengler. He compares our civilasation with rome and other great civilasations that have fallen. I havent read the book but from what I have gathered online its pretty damn good.
According to spengler one of the signs of the decline of the civilasations is when family values loses importance, when arts, music and literature becomes crap and when moral values loses importance. To me it looks like that is whats happening now

    =========================

From what I've seen of management in corporate America and from higher-ups in Texas state government, yah, there ain't much morality left in this country. There's more interest in doing what's expedient for business $$$ in the short term over doing what's healthy for the long-term interests of people. (I have a long long long rant here, but I ain't gonna get into it . . .)

I'd say the average Joe will be using less energy 25, 50 years from now. I think cities have a good chance of coming back, because they're more energy-efficient than sprawling suburbs.
I think tension between world religions will mount, and sooner or later we'll have a nasty world war or two because of conflicts in beleif systems. Lots of people will claim Armegaddon (as described in the book of Revelation) will be upon us, but it'll never happen, 'cause, well, I better not go into that here . . . But after the nastiness subsides, there will be lots of people mulling around in anguish and despair for a long long time.

Some asian country (probably China) will emerge as the world's #1 superpower. They might form an economic union similar to what they've got in Europe.
The US is gonna have to get used to being a second rate power compared to Asia; the citizenry here isn't gonna like that, economic conditions will decline, there will be a move toward socialism.

As soon as the medical eggheads figure out how to stop aging, all bets for anything are off . . . lots of people will be willing to do anything just to keep on living. And the "anything" they will be willing to do won't be very pretty.
World population will really explode . . . as a consequence, natural resources will be severely strained; infant mortality will go sky-high, it will be easier to spread plagues of brand-new viruses and pennicillin-resistant bacteria . . . life will cheap, and it will be ugly.

Pretty much, I'd say the planet is headed for another few hundred years of Dark Ages. Technology will save some, make life pleasant for others, but for the great unwashed masses, life will pretty much suck.

How's that for optimism? Better get yer fun in now while you can . . .

Jesus Christ!!! I'm glad I don't live in any of your minds. The world is only getting better, not worse. The way you guys talk you should just go ahead and put a gun in your mouth. Every generation for the past 3000 years has complained about the declining morality of the new generation. Violence, such as wars, always have and always will be a fact of life. Human preserverance will always win out. Don't dwell on the down side of being on this planet. You only live once, enjoy it.
