Just been diagnosed with Hodgekins disease...

Went to the doctor for my shoulder yesterday...I asked him about a lump thats been under my neck for about a week. I noticed it shaving. Hodgekins is genetic on my dads side of the family. I grabbed around and noticed a golf ball sized knot my by lymph nodes. I asked the doctor about it and he says you can get the disease from age 15-35. So I'm pretty nervous about this whole thing..I'm only 16 for God's sake. The weird thing guys, is I feel perfectly fine...Pray for me guys, honestly I'm scared to death...

Gotcha...i just looked it up actually. I know not much will help at this time, but understand that this is a treatable problem. You're catching it early, when your body is young and healthy enough to really battle it...I've got nothing but positive thoughts for ya bro...

has the doc diagnosed it yet? the reason i ask is that my ex had a very similar problem - they even went so far as to do surgery and remove one of the lymph nodes. After everything it turned out to be nothing but a scare.

Keep your head up bro! We're with ya...

My understanding is Hodgkins(sp) is more treatable than no Hodgkins lymphoma.

    Good luck man !

my advice is learn what you can about it, so you can be active in choosing a treatment plan. you'll know what to expect, and have some idea of what the doc is talking about.

take an active step and always keep your head up! sometimes the most successful recoveries are the ones who have the utmost hope at all times...

I have one guy telling me to get chemotherapy and radiation, and the other is telling me to just get all of it out with surgery. Personally i would rather prefer surgery, rather then just having the thing shrunken. Chemotherapy also gives a pretty weak immune system..kills the cancer, but you can die from something as little as a cold. I'm tellin my mom i'm just wanting to get the shit cut outta my neck and done with, thats what i've got planned for now guys. I have an appointment with the doc at 2 today, i'll let you know how it goes.

Where are you from? My brother is a lymphoma specialist in CT. I consulted him and what's probably going to happen is you're going to first get a biopsy, (they take out the whole lump/node or part of it). That's tested for malignancy. Next, if they find that there is malignancy, they'll give you either chemo or radiation. There's also a procdure where they systematically go through your body and remove your lymph nodes. This may not be an option in your case as the dissease is mild. They will also monitor your other organs for spread of the cancer. They may take some of your bone marrow for after the chemo is done, because chemo can destroy the marrow, and lymphoma can often spread to the marrow. Make sure you choose a hospital that does more than 5 bone marrow transplants a year. In the mean time, he suggests getting your immunizations up to date, especially flu, menangitis and pneumonia. Good luck buddy. It's good that they caught it early.

I wish you the best, bro. Its hard, but stay positive and things will work out. You are in our thoughts.

My father is a cancer surgeon, and though he treats very different types, it is always recommended to do a biopsy first to find out what you have in there. If malignant, then they should try to get all of it out surgically. Even if it is not, your family history may lead them to remove the lump as a precaution. Chemo usually follows surgery, to ensure that all the remaining cancer cells, if any, are dead. It will suck, but it will increase your chances of being cancer free.

Keep us posted, bro. We are here for you.

Bro, I'm real sorry to hear that damm that sucks.

Can't really offer any medical advice here as I really know nothing of this condition, but all I can say is give it hell! Fight it with everythig you got, beat the crap out of it. You're young, you're strong, you're tough as nails... with proper treatment, you can kick this things ass.

I'm sure I speak for all the fine bros (and broettes!) here when I say we're all behind you 150% on this one. Get well soon bro. Who knows, after the biopsy you might find out this was just a big scare

The doctors appointment went well...its not mallignent (cancerous) but it could turn that way if its not treated. They're gave me some kind of anti-biotic to see if it will just "go away" because it hasnt hardened thank God. The pill tastes so nasty though..they said if its not gone in two weeks, well do a surgery then chemotherapy. They said i'm lucky i got there early because it could have somehow gotten into my bloodstream and spread throughout my body, if that happend i would prolly be fucked. Thanks for the support guys, i really appreciate it. I'll let you know how this goes in another thread. Thanks again.
