question for the guys who have been in the military
How did you manage to have a relationship with a girl at home while you were gone? If you had one at all and did it work out?

What goes on overseas...stays overseas..The big step is a when a man can come to terms with the fact that he is sharing the girl with some other joker while he is away...once one faces that fact...relationships work out fine.

BULL ****!
sheez
TRUST is everything. If you dont have any, then she out! Simple, if there is a blade playing you while you are out!
easy, she gone, and the blade is dead!
TRUST! and **** the joker thats BS. Also, if you married with children, the woman with all her task has no time for a joker! Or a gf, they are so worry, than they freak out, worries and only think of you!
As for your friend, let me guess he's going to Korea eh?
Well two words! BREAK UP!

I'm guessing both are young, and not married. This makes it VERY difficult.
How long is he/she going to be gone, and how far away?
If he/she is close enough so you can see each other every few months, you could be fine.
If he/she is going overseas for more than a year... Speaking from experience... The odds are slim to none. BOTH will tire of the situation, and more than likely break-up. I have seen it happen dozens of times.

All I can say is long distance relationships are tough . . . I couldn't keep mine going. Of course, I was 19 at the time . . .
If the other party is going to be isolated from temptation or distraction (which I would suspect would be the case in many overseas locales), then things would be that much easier.

I'll be in the Air Force in a couple years and most likely won't have a relationship...I've never been really good about them, not many people talk to me much. I think it's because i'm usually quiet around people, and I scare them away maybe? I don't mind though. Hopefully this one will work out for you Peamie!

Anyway - depends on the relationship. I can tell ya that the divorce rate in the military is HUGE... like 90 some percent for first term marriages (I am one of them ). From a lot of different reasons... the three biggest IMO, the spouse not being home enough, financial issues and quick marriages that aren't really based on love but more of a convienince thing (like getting out of the barracks and moving in with the "girlfriend")...

It will be hard to make it work....when I went in the Army
I just broke everything off......I knew it would not work.
I would say he will be going through alot when he is sent away.....He may need to know he has someone who cares about him at home.....ya know??!! just dont be surprised if at some point you get a "dear jane letter"
or when he returns that he may have played the field a bit.......
